The Platinum Card® from American Express is turning 40, and Amex wants to celebrate with lots of exciting perks and bonuses for cardmembers, including a limited-time 40% transfer bonus to Hilton Honors.

Let’s take a look at the details of this exclusive bonus!

Hilton Honors Transfer Bonus

Typically, you can transfer Amex Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio, which means you’ll get 2 Hilton Honors points for every Amex Membership Rewards point you move over to the program.

Now, thanks to this offer, you can get 2,800 Hilton Honors points for every 1,000 Membership Rewards points you transfer — a bonus of 40%. This offer is valid through May 31, 2024, so if you’re interested, make sure you transfer your Amex points to Hilton Honors before that date.

Keep in mind that this is a targeted offer exclusively for those who have the Amex Platinum card, so you may not see it offered in your American Express account if you don’t have that card in your wallet.

Is It Worth It?

It’s pretty easy to earn Amex Membership Rewards points by spending on cards like the Amex Platinum card and the American Express® Gold Card. And they’re some of the most valuable flexible points around, worth 2.2 cents apiece according to our valuations. This means you’ll likely lose value when you transfer points to Hilton.

However, transferring Amex points over to Hilton can make sense if you need to top off your account balance for a specific Hilton redemption or if you have a short, inexpensive stay.

There are more than 6,000 hotels spanning 6 continents in Hilton’s portfolio. But it doesn’t use an award chart like some chains do (Hyatt, for example). Instead, Hilton uses variable award pricing, which means the number of points you may spend can vary by day. Sometimes, that can work in your favor.

For example, if you found yourself short a few thousand points before booking a stay at The Gates Hotel South Beach – a DoubleTree by Hilton in Miami, a 40% transfer bonus can actually be a pretty good deal, considering free nights start at 45,000 Hilton Honors points.

Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense to completely drain your balance of Amex points to transfer to Hilton.

Hot Tip:

We value Hilton Honors points at 0.5 cents apiece. Use our points and miles valuations to determine whether it’s better to use points or cash for a given hotel stay.

Final Thoughts

Even though we’ve seen Amex-to-Hilton transfer bonuses before, it’s always a nice surprise, especially at this rate. If you have a Hilton redemption coming up soon — and an Amex Platinum card in your wallet — using some of your Amex points (at a 40% bonus) could be a decent deal, depending on the property you’re looking at.
