Need to stay connected on your next Spirit Airlines flight?
The ultra-low-cost airline has announced that Wi-Fi is now available on 100% of its Spirit Airbus A320 and A321 planes.
Here’s what you need to know to browse, chat, or stream inflight with Spirit.
Wi-Fi Now Available on Spirit Airbus A320, A321 Aircraft
Spirit says more than 80% of its fleet has Wi-Fi capability and has completed system installations on its existing A320 and A321 sub-fleets. The airline plans to add 24 A320neo planes in 2022 and 33 more new planes in 2023.
The expansion of Wi-Fi functionality to Spirit’s existing A319 jets will be determined “at a later date.”
To use the internet during your flight, turn on your device’s Wi-Fi and choose “Spirit_WiFi.” You’ll then open your web browser and visit SpiritWiFi.com, choose the plan, and enter your payment or voucher code information.
Here’s how the costs break down:
Starting at $2.99: Browse the web and stay in touch via email, chat, and social media
Starting at $5.99: Stream, browse, and chat on board with high-speed internet
Spirit says the streaming option is 20 times faster than the browsing option.
Spirit, in a statement, noted how rare it is for ultra-low-cost carriers to offer Wi-Fi on their flights. While all full-service carriers offer Wi-Fi on flights for a fee (JetBlue offers Wi-Fi at no cost), low-cost airlines haven’t been known for having an inflight connection.
“This is a real groundbreaking moment in the industry as Spirit adds in-flight amenities and product options that have previously not been available on ultra-low fare carriers,” said Matt Klein, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for Spirit Airlines.
The airline says that customers can prepurchase Wi-Fi at the time of booking on spirit.com starting today, and on the mobile app beginning August 10, 2022, for flights on or after August 24, 2022.
Spirit partnered with Thales, an aerospace company, to install high-speed Wi-Fi on its routes in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean.
“At Thales, we are proud to partner with Spirit Airlines in their mission to enhance the Guest experience and are truly excited to have 100% of their A320 & A321 fleet equipped with FlytLIVE,” said TK Kallenbach, CEO of Thales.
Kallenbach says the service is receiving “rave reviews” from Spirit passengers.
Wi-Fi availability on the A320s and A321s is excellent news for Spirit passengers, who will have options to stay connected during their flights at a competitive price. However, make sure to check which aircraft you’re flying on before you leave home, as the A319 jets aren’t yet equipped with the service.
