For the first time, a Japanese carrier will be flying nonstop to the Middle East with Japan Airlines’ newly-announced service between Tokyo and Doha expected to begin in the summer of 2024.

Here’s everything that you need to know about this exciting new route.

Japan Airlines Will Fly Nonstop to Doha

Starting in the summer of 2024, Oneworld alliance carrier Japan Airlines (JAL) will fly daily between Tokyo-Haneda (HND) and Doha (DOH) using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. This is not only a new route for JAL, but it also inaugurates service to the Middle East by a Japanese carrier.

While the exact schedule for this flight has yet to be announced, the route between Tokyo and Doha covers a distance of 5,139 miles.

Doha is a fortress hub and home base for fellow Oneworld alliance airline, Qatar Airways. From there, it offers connections to dozens of destinations across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. In fact, it was only in June of this year that Qatar resumed its own service to Tokyo-Haneda (HND) following a 3-year suspension of the route because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Presently, Japan Airlines codeshares on Qatar Airways’ route between Doha and Tokyo. That arrangement is expected to continue once Japan Airlines launches its own route.

Hot Tip:

Want to know more about the Oneworld alliance and how it works? Here’s everything you need to know about Oneworld.

There are a variety of ways to book Japan Airlines flights using points and miles, including leveraging programs such as Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, American Airlines AAdvantage, and more.

Japan Airlines has an impressive business class product with its Apex Suites — they’re arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration on the Boeing 787-9 but every seat has direct aisle access thanks to their staggered nature. Of course, each seat reclines to the fully flat position, as well.

Final Thoughts

Qatar Airways obviously dominates Doha’s Hamad International Airport, but the hub has attracted a number of Oneworld partners, including American Airlines with its new-ish daily flight from New York (JFK) operated with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Other Oneworld airlines serving the airport include British Airways, Finnair, Malaysia Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan Airlines.

The addition of Japan Airlines to the alliance’s mix of carriers at the hub will strengthen its position as one of the world’s premier Oneworld hubs on the planet.
