JetBlue is making an effort to make its loyalty program more rewarding. In late December, the airline announced the launch of its new top-tier Mosaic+ status, which was stated to be only available for 2022, as the carrier looked to reshape its TrueBlue program in the years ahead.

Now, JetBlue has inked a partnership with BLADE to provide perks to both Mosaic and Mosaic+ members. While it’s a unique idea, and we are still waiting for more details to be announced, one wonders how useful the perk will prove to be for JetBlue’s most loyal flyers.

What Is BLADE?

BLADE is a helicopter transfer service that transports flyers to and from its downtown Manhattan heliport locations to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in as few as 5 minutes. BLADE does offer other transportation services as well, but airport transfers are its primary offering.

Currently, BLADE offers these routes for NYC flyers:

  • Fly between West 30th Street Heliport and JFK or EWR
  • Fly between East 34th Street Heliport and JFK

JetBlue and BLADE Partnership

This new partnership will offer Mosaic+ members the ability to “receive credits that are redeemable for complimentary seats” on BLADE airport transfers when connecting to or from a JetBlue flight. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know how many of these credits Mosaic+ members will receive or what this benefit will look like in 2023 when Mosaic+ status is reported to go away.

For Mosaic members, you’ll receive 25% off your first BLADE airport trip, when connecting to or from a JetBlue flight. Standard TrueBlue members aren’t left out either, as they’ll receive 10% off their first BLADE trip when connecting to or from a JetBlue flight.

BLADE transfers cost $195 each way, giving Mosaic members a $48.75 discount and TrueBlue members a $19.50 discount off their first flight. That said, the standard BLADE referral bonus is $50 off your first flight, so unless these discounts can be stacked, you’d be better off opting for the $50 discount referral.

Hot Tip: For first-time Blade flyers only, you can save $50 with promo code UPGRADED. Upgraded Points will receive a $25 credit when you land, which we’re very grateful for!

Final Thoughts

While free BLADE rides could certainly be a lucrative benefit for Mosaic+ members, we don’t yet know how many of these credits they’ll receive, or how this benefit will work in the future as JetBlue revamps its elite tiers. Further, one inconvenience of BLADE is that the service does not allow for checked bags, only carry-on bags, which could be a hang-up for certain flyers.

All of that said, it is great to see JetBlue looking to add perks to make its loyalty program more rewarding for flyers. Hopefully, this new perk will be the first of many more to come.
