Marriott Opens the JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa in South Korea

Marriott has shared that the brand-new JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa has opened on the popular beach island of Jeju in South Korea.

“We are delighted to introduce the JW Marriott brand to Jeju Island, one of South Korea’s most beautiful holiday destinations with its unique culture, history, and traditions, as well as its spectacular UNESCO World heritage-listed natural attractions,” said Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, JW Marriott.

JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa Now Open

Located about an hour’s drive from Jeju International Airport (CJU), the new JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa is set dramatically on a cliff that provides dazzling views of the coastline.

The property was designed by renowned luxury hotel designer Bill Bensley, “who took inspiration from the raw natural beauty of Jeju and its farming and fishing traditions to bring the JW Marriott brand philosophy to life,” according to Marriott.

This new resort was designed specifically to blend in with its natural environment. The colors — specifically yellow, which is considered lucky in Korean culture — and materials used are all an ode to the island itself. The landscaping was done in a way to evoke a traditional farm on the island.

The JW Marriott Jeju offers a total of 197 guest rooms including 28 suites, all of which are adorned with plenty of natural wood and a warm color palate. Standard Deluxe Rooms offer about 485 square feet of space, while suites are roomier at almost 1,000 square feet.

The resort offers 5 options for dining and drinking on the property — here’s a look at what you can expect:

• Island Kitchen: This is an all-day restaurant that employs ingredients local to the island and from further afield. The restaurant offers an indulgent brunch (from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily!) that boasts an unlimited champagne option as well as caviar served upon seating.
• The Flying Hog: This is the hotel’s “signature BBQ and rotisserie restaurant” that serves Jeju black pork and beef from its wood-fired oven.
• Yeoumul: A “Jeju-style omakase” that focuses on seasonal ingredients and the freshest seafood that’s procured by a group of local female divers known as Haenyeo.
• The Lounge: This outlet features a “resident coffee master” and serves specialty coffees, tea, and some food items. There’s also an outdoor deck where guests can enjoy hand-crafted cocktails and take in stunning sunsets.
• Bar Botan: The resort’s pool bar that offers local beers and signature food items including a lobster tartine.

Elsewhere, guests will have plenty to see and do. The full-service Spa by JW has 4 outdoor and indoor pools that are “fed by the island’s volcanic springs,” as well as saunas and an assortment of treatment rooms.

The resort provides numerous activities and experiences including morning walks and yoga classes, sound healing, Jeju tea ceremonies, wine tastings, a kids club and kids pool, picnic rentals, a children’s cooking class, and much more.

Guests will find spaces throughout the property that allow them to learn about the local area and feel a deeper connection to nature including the JW Garden and The Choga, which offers an example of traditional Jeju homes that educate visitors about the local population.

How to Book

The JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa participates in the Marriott Bonvoy program, which means guests can earn and redeem points for stays.

If you’re booking in cash, you can expect to pay around $700 per night. If you’re looking to use Marriott Bonvoy points, rooms can be had from 40,000 points per night, a great deal considering the high cash rates for rooms.
