Typically, the most effective method for redeeming your Ultimate Rewards points is by transferring them to a variety of Chase’s airline and hotel transfer partners (at a 1:1 rate), including United, Air Canada, and Hyatt, among others.

We’ll illustrate this with some redemption examples below.

1. 4 Round-Trip Tickets to London From the East Coast (Virgin Atlantic Flying Club) — $2,000+ Value

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points are one of our favorite airline currencies here at Upgraded Points. That’s because Virgin offers some very low-cost flights to and from London, although its tickets typically involve substantial taxes and surcharges.

However, at some exceptionally cheap rates, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card’s 75,000-point welcome offer can transport you and a few buddies to London for some fish and chips and afternoon tea.

After meeting the minimum spending requirements and earning the 75,000 bonus points, you’ll be at or very close to 80,000 points, enough to score 4 round-trip economy tickets to London over the summer (20,000 points round-trip per person), right after Labor Day. 

It’s rare to find welcome offers that deliver 4 round-trip tickets to Europe with just 1 card.

2. One-Way Business Class to Europe (Air France/KLM Flying Blue) — $3,000+ Value

The Air France/KLM Flying Blue loyalty program is one of our favorites here at Upgraded Points. If you wish to fly business class to or from Europe on Air France or KLM this summer, you can do so at very reasonable rates, with one-way business class awards starting for as few as 50,000 miles.

3. From the U.S. to Tokyo in ANA Business Class (Virgin Atlantic Flying Club) — $7,000+ Value

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Virgin Points have great value beyond just flying to London. They can be incredibly useful for redeeming flights on partner airlines, like Tokyo-based All Nippon Airways (ANA). It is widely believed that one of the most valuable ways to redeem Virgin Points is by using them for ANA first and business class tickets.

The airline’s service is regarded as excellent, with comfortable modern seats and a delightful selection of meals and Champagne to pick from.

Business class flights on ANA can be redeemed for 90,000 points round-trip from the West Coast and 95,000 points from the East Coast, making it an exceptional deal. This is an incredible value, considering that the cash rates for these flights often exceed $7,000 round-trip. (Do note that you’ll have to call Virgin Flying Club’s customer service to book this award.)

Although the 75,000-point welcome bonus alone won’t cover the cost of this round-trip luxury, with a few months of spending after receiving your card, you’ll be making significant progress towards accumulating enough points to redeem for ANA business class to Japan.

4. 3 Nights at the Park Hyatt St. Kitts (World of Hyatt) — $2,250+ Value

Many people like to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt. Hyatt’s award chart offers reasonable points for free stays at upscale hotels worldwide, making it a great way to get value from the welcome bonus offer.

If you’re seeking a tranquil and luxurious getaway with stunning sun-filled views and a chance to unwind, consider booking a stay at the Park Hyatt St. Kitts.

You can reserve your stay starting at 25,000 World of Hyatt points per night or 25,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when transferred to Hyatt. For travel this July, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card’s 75,000-point welcome bonus can get you a 3-night stay at the Park Hyatt St. Kitts.

The Park Hyatt St. Kitts is a highly regarded option, offering breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and the neighboring island of Nevis. At an average of $750 per night during the low season and between $1,200 and $1,500 per night during peak season, a points redemption here will likely result in outstanding value from your hard-earned points.

5. 2 Round-Trip Tickets to Hawaii (British Airways Avios, Southwest Rapid Rewards) — $2,000+ Value

Hawaii is a year-round travel destination, but it is busiest in the summer months of July and August. In addition to being the most popular season to visit the Hawaiian islands — when everyone is on vacation, and schools are not in session — summer is also when airfare is at its highest.

Fortunately, Chase’s transfer partners include British Airways Executive Club and Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, 2 highly lucrative transfer programs. In addition, you can transfer your points to the loyalty program of either airline and use them to book flights to Hawaii.

You can use British Airways’ distance-based award chart to fly from the West Coast to Hawaii on American Airlines or Alaska Airlines. Given the 2,000–3,000-mile distance between the Hawaiian Islands and a number of West Coast destinations, including Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO), you can redeem British Airways Avios to book flights for 16,000 Avios each way in economy between the mainland and Hawaii, with points to spare.

This is among the most affordable ways to visit the Hawaiian Islands.

You could spend even less by transferring points to Southwest when cash fares are low. For less than 15,000 points this summer, you can book a one-way ticket to Hawaii from the West Coast by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest, which convert at a 1:1 ratio and transfer instantly.

Those with the beloved Southwest Companion Pass can do even better when redeeming points for flights to Hawaii. This is because the Southwest Companion Pass allows you to add a companion (yes, even on award tickets) for only the cost of taxes and fees (which is $5.60 one-way on a domestic ticket), so 2 people can fly to Hawaii for less than 15,000 points and a few dollars out of pocket.
