Would I like to receive Flying Blue miles in my account automatically every month? Definitely. Would I like to pay for that feature? That’s a different question.

Flying Blue — the combined loyalty program of Air France and KLM — now offers a monthly mileage subscription service. Should you sign up? Let’s take a look at how it works to help you decide.

Flying Blue Subscribe to Miles Feature

As the name implies, the “Subscribe to Miles” feature from Flying Blue lets you receive a monthly allotment of miles for a predetermined fee. You’ll need to sign up and choose the package you prefer.

Pricing options are as follows:

  • 2,000 miles per month costs $34.20 (1.71 cents per mile)
  • 5,000 miles per month costs $79 (1.58 cents each)
  • 10,000 miles per month costs $146 (1.46 cents)
  • 17,000 miles per month costs $227.80 (1.34 cents)

Of course, there are some terms you should know about:

  • You can cancel for a full refund within 14 days of your subscription.
  • Miles don’t expire while you have a subscription; if you cancel, miles expire in 24 months.
  • These miles don’t count toward elite status requirements.
  • You’ll be billed monthly on the date you originally signed up.
  • Miles will be deposited into your account within 72 hours of payment.
  • Direct link to offer.

Is It Worth It?

Let’s crunch the numbers. We value Flying Blue miles at 1.3 cents apiece. Only the most expensive package comes close to selling you miles near that price, even though it’s still a bit higher.

On the flip side, it’s easily possible to redeem Flying Blue miles at values higher than what you’ll pay for your Subscribe to Miles plan each month. Does that mean you should enroll? Not so fast.

There are many ways to boost your Flying Blue balance without paying a monthly fee for that honor. Flying Blue is a 1:1 transfer partner of every major program: American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Wells Fargo Rewards. It’s also a 3:1 transfer partner of Marriott Bonvoy.

You also can buy Flying Blue miles (at a discount sometimes) if you need a few on occasion — without having to commit to a monthly subscription. And, of course, there’s the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard®, issued by Bank of America, that lets you earn Flying Blue miles from its welcome offer and daily spending.

Bottom Line:

You have lots of options for getting miles into your account, from a massive number of transfer partners to a credit card to buying Flying Blue miles when needed to top off your account.

Final Thoughts

Flying Blue has a new monthly miles subscription offer called Subscribe to Miles. While you can get a monthly allotment of miles at a fair price, it won’t make sense for most people. That’s because there are so many other ways to get miles that don’t require buying them.

The information regarding the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard® was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.
