What Is Priority Pass?
The Club at San Jose. Image Credit: Priority PassPriority Pass is an independent lounge program that provides members access to over 1,300 airport lounge locations (and/or restaurants) in over 600 cities worldwide.
If you have a membership, you can utilize each participating lounge regardless of the airline you’re flying, the class of your ticket, or your membership (or lack thereof) in any frequent flyer club.
How To Get Priority Pass Membership
Via Credit Card Member Benefit
The best way to acquire membership is to have a credit card that offers Priority Pass Select as a cardmember benefit.
What Is Priority Pass Select?
Priority Pass Select is the membership plan/card you’re given when you receive your membership through a U.S. financial institution (e.g. your bank account or a credit card). If you do not receive your membership through a credit card, you’re simply considered to have a standard membership.
Image Credit: Priority PassThe following credit cards are our favorites that include Priority Pass Select as a cardholder benefit, and for each card below you can bring up to 2 guests in with you, complimentary.
Hot Tip: Priority Pass memberships from U.S.-issued American Express cards no longer include restaurants (“non-lounge airport experiences”).
The Citi Prestige® Card also offers Priority Pass lounge access for the cardholder and up to 2 guests, too.
If you’re curious what other credit cards will provide you with Priority Pass access, check out our guide on the best credit cards that get you Priority Pass lounge access.
Enrollment Is REQUIRED!
If you receive a Priority Pass Select membership through one of the above credit cards, you’re required to officially enroll to utilize your benefits. You cannot simply show your credit card and expect entry, especially since Priority Pass is notoriously strict on requiring a valid membership card or digital membership card to enter.
You should refer to your membership guide or contact your credit card’s customer service staff if you’re having trouble figuring out how to enroll.
Pay for a Membership Plan
If you don’t have a credit card that includes Priority Pass Select as a member benefit, you can sign up for a membership plan on the Priority Pass website. The pricing varies by country and desired plan benefits.
Image Credit: Priority PassAs you can see, there are 3 membership tiers:
- The Standard plan has a $99 annual fee. Customers must also pay an additional $32 each time they visit a lounge.
- The Standard Plus plan has a $299 annual fee and customers receive 10 “free” visits. Each additional visit thereafter is $32.
- The Prestige plan has a $429 annual fee and customers receive all visits “free.”
On all plans, each guest will cost $32, and the number of guests is subject to each specific lounge’s policy.
Not Sure Which Plan Is Right for You?
Check out this handy table based on how many times you might visit a Priority Pass Lounge each year:
| Standard | Standard Plus | Prestige | Select (Credit Card Benefit) |
1 visit | $131 | $299 | $429 | FREE (with your annual credit card membership fee) |
5 visits | $259 | $299 |
10 visits | $419 | $299 |
15 visits | $579 | $459 |
20 visits | $739 | $569 |
As mentioned previously, it’s most lucrative to have Priority Pass Select, which means FREE access to thousands of lounges worldwide via one of the credit cards likely already in your wallet.
You can also see that visiting one of its lounges just 5 times makes considering the Standard Plus plan worth it. If you’ve signed up for Standard, any number of visits past 5 will end up costing you more than if you had purchased the Standard Plus to begin with.
The Prestige Plan is only your best bet if you plan to visit any of the lounges more than 14 times in 1 year. That’s a lot of visits… if you really think about it, why not get a credit card that already includes Priority Pass Select as well as a multitude of other cost-saving benefits, rewards, and perks?
25th Anniversary Promotion
Image Credit: Priority PassAs of early 2021, Priority Pass still has a live link for a special discount on all membership plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary from 2019. To take advantage of this promotion, you must sign up through this link.
This promotion is good for:
- 25% off Standard membership
- 20% off Standard Plus membership
- 10% off Prestige membership
Hot Tip: You’ll find the page initially displays pricing in GBP (£). Click SELECT under your desired plan and the next page asks you to “select your residence.” Once this is done, the plan appears in your appropriate currency of choice with the discount applied.
Priority Pass Membership Benefits
Main Benefits
Obviously, the point of having a Priority Pass membership is to gain access to airport lounges. Priority Pass reports that they currently partner with over 1,300 lounges worldwide in more than 600 cities across 148 countries.
In the U.S. alone, there are nearly 100 lounges or lounge alternatives that members can take advantage of (and we list them all below).
Priority Pass also boasts a dedicated team that’s working hard to add more lounges each month.
What Does a Priority Pass Lounge Offer?
Per the FAQ page, members receive the following main benefits:
- Access to 1,300+ lounges worldwide
- Complimentary drinks, refreshments, and pre-flight bites including alcohol (in most lounges)
- Space to work or relax in a place that feels like home
- Free Wi-Fi in most lounges
- Comfortable seats and quiet spaces
- The latest magazines and newspapers
- Power sockets to give your devices a boost
- Conference rooms, showers, beds, and spa facilities in select lounges
We offer more details on these amenities in the General Amenities section below.
How Do I Access a Lounge?
To access a Priority Pass lounge, members must present a membership card.
Most lounges now accept a digital membership card that can be accessed via the Priority Pass app. However, be sure to check the requirements of the specific lounge you wish to visit before arriving — in some cases, the lounge will require a physical membership card.
What About Guests?
Priority Pass members are allowed to bring guests into most lounges unless otherwise stated on the lounge directory/information page. The number of guests allowed is variable per lounge, often subject to space/capacity constraints, and may depend on if you have the Select or Standard membership.
If you obtained a Priority Pass membership directly from Priority Pass, the guest access price is $32 per guest per visit. This guest fee will be charged directly to your nominated payment card.
Priority Pass also states that if you joined the program via a third party such as a card issuer or other partner, guest fees can vary.
For example, some of the more popular travel rewards credit cards give you complimentary guest access:
Priority Pass App
Image Credit: Priority PassThe Priority Pass app is available for Apple and Android users to download on their smartphones. This app is free and includes access to your digital membership card. Additionally, the app provides users the ability to search for lounges, rate lounges, and access their visit history. Specific to each lounge, users can find lounge images, hours, and amenities offered.
Other Benefits
Restaurant (i.e. “Lounge Alternatives”) Discounts: Priority Pass offers special restaurant discounts at specific airport locations. Typically, the discount equates to $28 off the final bill per person, per visit.
For example, the current lounge alternatives at PDX are Portland’s Capers Cafe Le Bar and House Spirits Distillery. All restaurant/bar locations are included in the Priority Pass lounge directory.
Note that Priority Pass memberships from U.S.-issued American Express cards, including the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card, no longer include Priority Pass restaurant access (“non-lounge airport experiences”).
Family/Partner Pass: Priority Pass doesn’t advertise it boldly, but they do offer a Partner Standard Membership at half price. Members should contact its Membership Services team for more information.
Referral Bonuses: Through a special referral link, Priority Pass members can refer friends and receive free guest visits in return. Plus, your friends get 10% off their membership as a perk. There is no limit to the number of friends you can refer.
IHG Partnership: Priority Pass members with a paid membership also receive benefits/discounts with IHG. The Priority Pass website states, “Taking advantage of these discounts is easy. Simply go to the IHG website, available from your Priority Pass membership portal, and supply your Priority Pass membership number. The discount will be applied to the total in the cart when checking out.”
Avis Partnership: Priority Pass members with a paid membership can join Avis Preferred Plus for free (an upgraded form of the standard Avis Preferred loyalty program). The upgraded perks include “priority service,” the highest possible priority for car availability, single upgrades, a free additional driver benefit, and a voucher for a free weekend in Europe after 3 rentals.

Final Thoughts
If you’re considering membership and you travel often, it’s a lot more lucrative to sign up for one of the credit cards mentioned above. Each of these credit cards provides additional cost-saving benefits to frequent flyers, so the value will outweigh simply signing up for a direct membership alone.
Priority Pass is consistently expanding its lounge options, meaning you’ll have a decent choice for lounge access at most places you fly.
