Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport features 2 terminals, Terminal A and Terminal B, which are connected to each other via a series of walkways. The terminals are situated between the runway and taxiways, with a tunnel running under a taxiway for road traffic to enter and exit the airport.

A looping roadway circulates traffic through the airport with access to the parking garages in the middle of the loop and split-level roadways for arrivals and departures. SJU has a hotel located near Terminal B arrivals.

Terminal A

Terminal A is located on the southern side of the airport and serves international and domestic flights.

Lower Level – Arrivals

Terminal A baggage claim is on the lower level. From here, passengers can also access some ground transportation services, including the rideshare collection area and taxis. To reach the parking garage, passengers need to walk to Terminal B to access the pedestrian walkway.

Upper Level – Departures

The Terminal A departures area is on the upper level, and out of the 3 airlines based here, JetBlue operates the majority of flights.

In addition to the airline ticketing desks, there are a couple of shops and grab-and-go food options outside the secure area. Public bus services are available outside the terminal on the upper level.

Terminal A has a security checkpoint, and passengers can access the other concourses via airside walkways once inside the secure area.

Terminal B

Terminal B is located in the center of the airport and is where the majority of airlines operate from, as it’s the larger of the 2 terminals.

Lower Level – Arrivals

Baggage claim is located on the lower level, along with Customs and Border Protection for international arrivals.

Some airline desks are on this level, in addition to the lost and found office and a couple of tourist information desks. The main parking garage is across the roadway from Terminal B, and passengers can walk across the pedestrian crossings or bridge for access.

Further north of the airport (near the old Terminal D), you’ll find a Traveler’s Aid office, another Uber collection point, and a public bus stop on the arrivals level.

Upper Level – Departures (Concourses B and C)

The Terminal B departures area is on the upper level, and there are several restaurants and shops outside the secure area, in addition to airline ticketing desks.

The terminal has 1 central security checkpoint for convenient access to Concourses B, C, and D, but once inside the secure area, passengers can also walk to Concourse A.

Concourse B has 9 gates numbered B2 to B10; Concourse C has 9 gates numbered C2 to C10, and Concourse D has 3 gates numbered D1, D2, and D4.

Concourses B and C have a good selection of shops and restaurants, with more located in the concourse connector.

Lower Level – Arrivals (Old Concourse D and Concourse E Sites)

Passengers arriving at Concourses C and D on international flights will be processed through Customs and Border Protection between the 2 concourses in Terminal B.

Concourse E (or Terminal E as it was previously known) has facilities such as a Traveler’s Aid desk, a police station, and a chapel on the upper level.

Upper Level – Departures (Concourse D)

Passengers can reach this concourse by checking in and clearing the security checkpoint in Terminal B before heading left at Concourse C to walk down the long connector.

Inter-terminal Transport

Walking

Connecting between the terminals and concourses at SJU is pretty straightforward. Terminals A and B are connected outside the secure area near the ticketing desks, so there’s no need to exit the building to walk between them.

Once through security, all 4 concourses are also connected by covered walkways, making connections between flights simple.

If you’re arriving on an international flight, you’ll need to collect your luggage and clear Immigration and Customs before rechecking your bag and clearing security again.

The 2 furthest gates are about 0.6 miles apart, so the maximum walking time between gates is about 15 minutes.

Security and Customs at SJU

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport has 2 security checkpoints — 1 located in Terminal A and the other in Terminal B.

The airport doesn’t disclose the exact checkpoint opening hours, but these are usually around 2 hours before the first departure until the last departure.

TSA PreCheck

SJU has dedicated TSA PreCheck lanes at the Terminal A security checkpoint, open 24 hours.

There is no TSA PreCheck Enrollment Center at SJU, with the closest located around 6 miles away at IdentoGO, 150 Av. Los Gobernadores, Ste. 200 Carolina, 00979-7079.

Once you’ve arranged a meeting and have been approved, you’ll be able to use TSAPreCheck lanes available at any U.S. airport.
