Award search tools can be immensely helpful when booking flights with points and miles. These websites have only improved over time as they add more frequent flyer programs and user-friendly features to help hunt down award seats.

However, if you’re looking to book tickets from Flying Blue, the popular frequent flyer program of Air France and KLM and the largest frequent flyer program in Europe, you may find yourself out of luck.

Here’s what you need to know.

Flying Blue Award Rates Are Currently Not Available

There are several award search tools online, such as Seats.aero and PointsYeah. They allow you to plug in your origin and arrival airports to find award availability on a number of frequent flyer programs for your desired dates.

However, Upgraded Points staffer Ryan Smith noticed that Flying Blue was no longer available on Seats.aero.

We reached out to Seats.aero for comment, and learned that this was actually part of a broader change that wasn’t exclusive to this search tool.

“Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago Flying Blue made some significant changes that require you to log into a frequent flyer account to search for award availability,” Seats.aero founder, Ian Carroll, shared with Upgraded Points. “Seats.aero usually only supports programs that allow us to search while logged out, and that was the case with Flying Blue for a while until recently. We weren’t able to get any clarity on why they made that change.”

These award search tools rely on finding award availability before logging in, so Flying Blue’s update prevents Seats.aero from doing its job.

“It’s possible we’ll be able to work around it but since it’s a relatively large change it is taking us some time,” Carroll continued.

Bottom Line:

It’s unfortunate to see this happen as Air France-KLM Flying Blue is one of our favorite programs for booking award tickets to Europe. Hopefully, it won’t be long for Seats.aero to create a workaround, since we love using this search tool for generating lightning speed results.

Flying Blue Searchable on Point.me

Point.me is another popular award search tool that many travelers use. The company maintains partnerships with Bilt Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards, allowing members to use the service for free.

Interestingly, Point.me is displaying Flying Blue award rates at the time of writing. So if you’re in dire need of searching for Flying Blue rates, you can use this service instead.

Why is this the case? We can only speculate that Point.me conducts award searches with an account logged in on file. On the contrary, you’ll notice that generating results on Point.me takes significantly longer than its competitors like Seats.aero or PointsYeah.

Final Thoughts

Fortunately, there’s no lawsuit or bad blood involved — just that Flying Blue’s new log-in update is affecting how travelers are using award search tools. This is important to know if you’re looking for ways to get to Europe with points and miles.

Hopefully, Seats.aero will find a solution for its users to once again see the Flying Blue Award awards in the near future.
