Four Seasons Heading to Seville

Four Seasons has announced plans to open a hotel on Seville’s Plaza Nueva in partnership with Spanish real estate firm Blasson. The intimate, 55-room property will occupy a landmark mid-20th-century building in the Arenal Quarter, steps from UNESCO World Heritage sites including the Seville Cathedral and Royal Alcázar. Plans include a street-level restaurant with access to Plaza Nueva, a rooftop restaurant and bar, and a rooftop pool overlooking the city’s historic skyline.

Ruby Hotels Coming to New York City — 2027

IHG‘s Ruby Hotels brand has signed its second U.S. property in recent months, this time in Manhattan. Ruby New York City is planned for a renovated 18-story, 1930s-era building on Avenue of the Americas near Herald Square, with 187 rooms and a 24/7 lobby bar. It’s projected to open in 2027 alongside a previously announced Chicago location.

LXR Hotels & Resorts Coming to Hakone, Japan — 2028

Hilton has signed an agreement to bring LXR Hotels & Resorts to Hakone Gora in 2028, marking the brand’s debut in Japan’s premier hot spring destination. Hotel Industry News

  • Oneworld and Taj launch a unique loyalty partnership. The global airline alliance and IHCL’s Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass have launched the first-ever loyalty collaboration between a global airline alliance and a hotel group. Oneworld Emerald members receive 15% discounts at participating Taj properties, while Ruby and Sapphire members get 10% off room rates, dining, and spa.
  • People Incorporated makes a play for MGM Resorts. MGM confirmed it received an unsolicited acquisition offer from People Incorporated (formerly IAC) at $48.30 per share in cash. MGM’s board is reviewing the proposal.
  • Hilton’s Curio and Tapestry Collections each hit 200 hotels. Both lifestyle brands have surpassed 200 open properties, with Curio now spanning 47 countries and Tapestry closing in on 150 hotels in its development pipeline.
  • The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is in financial trouble. The luxury cruise line has accumulated nearly $700 million in losses since 2017. Lenders recently agreed to defer $171 million in repayments, while shareholders injected an additional $275 million in equity to keep the operation afloat.
  • Meliá and Iberostar are exiting Cuba. The U.S. government’s fuel blockade against the island and financial threats against companies doing business there led these European brands to pull out of their hotels in Cuba.

Final Thoughts

It’s a week that underscores just how wide the hotel industry’s spectrum really is. While Four Seasons and Hilton are signing deals in some of the world’s most culturally compelling destinations, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is a reminder that luxury branding alone doesn’t guarantee financial success. Meanwhile, the MGM acquisition is worth watching closely.
