MaxMyPoint is one of our absolute favorite websites for finding award nights at hotels thanks to its easy-to-read interface. It’s also free to use, though it does have some limitations if you’re not paying for a membership.

In the past, its ability to search for award nights was limited to Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott. While immensely helpful, this had left out the fourth major hotel chain, IHG.

However, that issue has now been solved, as MaxMyPoint has just added tracking for IHG hotels.

Let’s take a look at how it works.

Using MaxMyPoint To Find IHG Award Nights

Although the IHG One Rewards program moved to a dynamic award pricing system in 2020, there are still plenty of people who find value in the program. Unfortunately, the ability to search for reward nights has long been a pain. Unlike sites such as Hilton and Marriott, IHG doesn’t provide an easy-to-use rate calendar. Instead, guests have had to rely on cherry-picking select dates and hoping they have award availability.

Luckily, this is a thing of the past since MaxMyPoint now brings up a year’s worth of availability for 6,459 different IHG properties. How good is this tracking?

We tested it out with the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalasso Spa, a property famous for providing the ability to book overwater villas with points. Not once — ever — have we been able to find an award night at this property. That’s how popular it is.

MaxMyPoint quickly identified the 7% of dates that had rooms available, including a 9-night stretch in December.

We went and took a look at IHG’s own website just to confirm that these nights are indeed bookable:

Just as MaxMyPoint shows, there is a large chunk of availability at the beginning of December of this year. It’s a shame that IHG’s dynamic pricing system has now caused these rates to skyrocket, however. At an average of 211,714 points per night, almost no one should be booking these rooms.

Still, if you have an IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, you’ll get the fourth night free on award stays. This means that the cost of a 4-night stay would drop from 846,865 points to 635,142 points.

Final Thoughts

MaxMyPoint adding tracking for IHG is an excellent move and great news for IHG loyalists. Although IHG has moved to a fully dynamic point pricing system, it’s still possible to find some deals — and with the ability to track availability, it’ll be a much simpler process.
