We’re always on the lookout for more ways to earn points. What if you could earn more points … from points you already earned? You can, thanks to the new multiply your points from Marriott Bonvoy.

At its base, this is an opportunity to buy points, and you could do so with up to a 25% discount — dropping the price as low as 0.94 cents per point.

Should you use this new feature to multiply your Marriott Bonvoy points? Let’s take a look at the positives and negatives.

New Marriott Bonvoy Multiply Points Feature

If you earned Marriott Bonvoy points recently, you can multiply those points by 2x, 3x, or 4x. The discount available also increases when you choose a higher multiplication rate. You’ll find 15%, 20%, and 25% discounts with these offers, respectively.

To check your offer, head to the Manage Points page and click on the Multiply Points button.

On the next page, you’ll see your personalized offer, based on your recent earnings. My most recent earnings came from our food and beverage expenses at the Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection. I earned 3,051 points, and that’s what I can multiply by 2x, 3x, or 4x.

Factoring in the discounts and multiplication rates, here are the costs with this offer:

  • 2x: 1.06 cents per point
  • 3x: 1 cent per point
  • 4x: 0.94 cents per point

Despite having other earnings in the past few months, my offer only includes the points from my most recent earnings. Take that into consideration, as it could be much less than other pools of points you’ve earned recently.

Now, for some key terms you should know:

  • You must have activity in the past 12 months to qualify.
  • Offers are refreshed monthly, based on your latest activity.
  • Offers are tailored.
  • The purchase minimum is 1,000 points.
  • The maximum annual purchase is 100,000 points.
  • Purchases are nonrefundable.
  • Points may take up to 72 hours to appear in your account.
Hot Tip:

Purchases are processed by Points.com, not Marriott, so these won’t count as travel or a hotel on your credit card. The best option will be using a credit card with strong earnings on everyday spending.

Is It Worth It?

This is an opportunity to buy Marriott Bonvoy points, and you can often do that for less than the price available through the multiply points offer. However, Marriott Bonvoy points aren’t on sale every day, so this offer might provide another option to get points cheaply if that’s what you’re looking for.

But buying points and miles isn’t always worth it. We value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents apiece, so buying them for 0.94 cents won’t make sense for most people.

This offer could make sense in 2 situations: Topping up your account if you’re short for an upcoming reservation or making a redemption where you’ll use points at a higher value than the cost of buying them. Otherwise, it’s probably not worth it.

Plus, not every offer will let you buy points for 0.94 cents apiece. If you multiply at just 2x with a 15% discount, the price will be even higher — making it even less valuable.

Final Thoughts

There’s a new way to buy Marriott Bonvoy points, thanks to the option to multiply your recent Bonvoy earnings. For most people, this offer won’t make sense.

Offers will refresh monthly, so it’s worth keeping an eye on your available options. If you find something that makes sense and you’ll get value out of the points you’re multiplying, this feature could be handy. Crunch the numbers to make sure.
