Porter Airlines, based in Toronto, is expanding its domestic route network with a new East-West service.
Beginning July 26, 2023, Porter will operate a daily service between Ottawa (YOW) and Vancouver (YVR).
“Now that Porter reaches Canada’s west and east coasts from YOW, I am confident that Porter’s current passengers and new ones alike will appreciate flying refined on these popular routes,” said Mark Laroche, president, and CEO at Ottawa International Airport Authority.
Here are the details of Porter Airline’s new route.
Porter’s Ottawa to Vancouver Service
This summer sees the inauguration of Porter Airline’s longest route.
The 2,214-mile journey between Ottawa and Vancouver will operate year-round on a daily basis with the following schedule:
Porter’s Embraer E195 aircraft will operate the route. The jet is comprised of 132 seats in a 2-2 configuration — 16 of which are for passengers who wish to fly in the airline’s business-class-esque PorterReserve seats.
The rest of the cabin is made up of economy seats, with 20 of those dedicated to PorterClassic Stretch extra legroom seats.
Porter in the USA
Porter’s route network already connects Canada with the U.S.
The airline operates nonstop services from Boston (BOS), Chicago (MDW), Newark (EWR) and Washington-Dulles (IAD) to its Toronto (YTZ) hub, as well as to its Ottawa hub but only from Boston and Newark.
Bottom Line:
Porter Airlines operates a hub and spoke network from its 3 major hub airports at Ottawa, Toronto-Pearson, and Toronto Billy Bishop. From 2024, the airline has big plans to add a fourth major hub from Montréal’s Saint-Hubert Airport with no less than 10 new routes.
“Ottawa is positioned as a critical part of Porter’s growing North American network,” said Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Porter Airlines. “We will continue building our presence in YOW and providing a superior level of service and travel options for economy travellers.”
From Ottawa and Toronto the regional airline operates nonstop services to lesser-known Canadian destinations such as Moncton (MCT), Thunder Bay (YQT) which puts Porter airlines in pole position for U.S. travelers wishing to explore off-the-beaten-track Canada.
Final Thoughts
Porter Airlines will connect Canada’s West Coast with a new service to its capital city of Ottawa this summer.
The new route from Vancouver to Ottawa will mean new connectivity options for domestic and international travelers.
