Qantas has announced an update that will bring about changes to its entire global route network in 2025.

The update features a noteworthy increase in the number of seats available on flights to the U.S.

“This growth is good news for our people and also allows us to offer more choice for our customers travelling around the Qantas network,” said Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas.

Let’s take a closer look at the changes that will affect the airline’s U.S. route network.

Qantas Plans To Improve U.S. Connectivity

The Australian national flag carrier plans to ramp up connectivity between the U.S. and Australia by around 13% in terms of capacity over the course of 2025.

Included in the changes will be updates to the frequency of 2 of Qantas’ key routes to the U.S., detailed below:

From August 2025, Qantas will bring back 2 additional A380s into its fleet, meaning the aircraft can return to the Sydney to Dallas route for the first time since the pandemic started in 2020.

With 14 first-class seats, 70 in business class, and 60 in premium economy, the superjumbo’s return to the route will herald a significant increase in premium seats available for passengers to book with both cash and points between Sydney and Dallas.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which will continue to operate the route alongside the A380, doesn’t have a first-class cabin and has around half the number of business and premium economy seats.

And finally, starting on August 25, 2025, Qantas will redeploy the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on its Brisbane (BNE) to Los Angeles (LAX) service, which means passengers can fly premium economy on this route.

Final Thoughts

Qantas plans to increase its capacity by 13% between Australia and the U.S. in 2025, which could potentially lead to an increased amount of seats available for redeeming miles.

While this is great news, what we really want to know is when Project Sunrise‘s nonstop flights from Sydney to New York (JFK) will commence.
