Southwest Airlines has announced St. Thomas (STT) as the first of 3 new destinations.

The addition of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands marks the first time the low-cost airline has added a new destination since 2021.

“We want to make Southwest Airlines the easy and obvious choice every time, and this is another meaningful step in our ongoing transformation,” said Bob Jordan, president, CEO, and vice chairman of the board of directors at Southwest.

Here’s what we know so far.

Southwest Will Fly to St. Thomas From 2026

Southwest has been conservative with its route network expansion over the past few years. Domestic route additions like the recently announced expansion in Florida have taken priority over new destinations.

It makes sense, given the time and energy the airline has been investing in other major changes, such as removing its famed free checked-bag policy and introducing extra legroom and premium seating.

Now that those major updates are all out in the open, the low-cost airline has more time to focus on its network. Southwest has kicked off proceedings with the addition of 3 new destinations to its route network starting in 2026.

However, the carrier is being tight-lipped about the details, having only shared St. Thomas as the first of the 3 new destinations.

The only other information we have so far is the confirmation that service to St Thomas is expected to start in 2026. As for specifics, we don’t even know the airport in the U.S. that it will operate from.

At this early stage, we’d guess that the route will originate from a major Southwest hub like Dallas-Love Field (DAL), Atlanta (ATL), or maybe even Baltimore (BWI).

The only other nugget of information we do know is that the route will be operated by one of Southwest’s Boeing 737 variants.

We’ll be back with an update as soon as we learn of the specifics about each of the 3 new routes.

Hot Tip:

If you’re a frequent Southwest flyer, you might want to consider a co-branded Southwest credit card that will enhance your flying experience. Perks offered by these cards include bonus points on Southwest Airlines purchases, in-flight Wi-Fi credits, and Tier Qualifying Points!

Final Thoughts

St. Thomas is the first of 3 new destinations Southwest is planning to serve in 2026. We look forward to hearing more about this route, as well as the other 2 new destinations.
