Airline award availability can come and go so quickly, making it difficult to find. The good news is that you no longer have to spend hours sifting through multiple websites to find that perfect redemption because there are award search tools that can do all of the legwork for you.

One of those tools is Roame (or Roame.travel). Roame gathers award availability from multiple loyalty programs and airlines in a single, powerful search, streamlining the process and saving you time. It can search multiple destinations and dates with filtering options that help you tailor your searches to exactly what you need

In this post, we’ll explore how to use Roame, how much it costs (spoiler: we have a promo code), and how it stacks up to competitors.

What Is Roame?

Roame is a search tool that helps you find which airline awards are available. Simply put, it helps you find the perfect way to use those points and miles you’ve been collecting without all of the hassle. Instead of having to do dozens of searches on your own (which can be very time-consuming), Roame does the hard work for you.

How Much Does Roame Cost?

There are 3 levels of Roame membership: Community, Friends of Roame, and Enterprise.

The Community membership is free. It’s great for casual travelers who don’t need the more robust features offered in the paid memberships. The Enterprise membership is for business owners, so it’s probably more than most people need.

Most points and miles enthusiasts will prefer the Friends of Roame subscription, which includes valuable enhanced features like the ability to set alerts.

How To Use Roame To Find Award Flights

You can’t use Roame’s features until you sign up for a membership (either free or paid). Then you can start your flight search by inputting departure and arrival cities and a travel date range. You can filter your search by multiple factors, allowing you to be as broad or as specific as you’d like.

Filters include airline programs, credit card programs, number of stops, number of points, and even aircraft type.

Live Search vs. SkyView

You should notice a toggle button at the top of the search results page that says “Live Search” and “SkyView.”

Live searches are limited to a 3-day window for free accounts and a 7-day window for Friends of Roame subscribers. Both free and paid subscribers can search the next full year.

The system defaults to searching for just 1 day. To access the 3- or 7-day search features, toggle on the options that let you search 1 day before or after (free) or up to 3 days before or after (pro membership).

These results are live and, therefore, more accurate than cached results. However live results have narrower search parameters, so they might not be as useful when you’re searching for multiple locations and days.

SkyView shows you cached results. This allows you to have a broader search (multiple airports or even “anywhere” for pro members) over a wider travel window. SkyView results are limited to a 7-day window over the next 60 days for free members and a 60-day window for a full year for paid subscribers.

These cached SkyView searches can be handy when you have lots of flexibility and are just looking for the best deal.

Bottom Line:

There are 2 main ways to search for flights using Roame. Live search has narrower parameters but offers more accurate results. SkyView allows you to use broader search criteria (an excellent option if you have flexibility), but it will show you cached results that may be a few hours or even a couple of days old. Regardless of which search function you use, always confirm availability on the booking website before transferring any points.

Understanding Search Results

Your search results should show you a wealth of information. At a glance, you can quickly see each flight option, including times, class of service, routes, cost, transfer options, and number of available seats. For more detailed information, click the dropdown arrow to the right of your screen.

You can then see even more details, including a direct link to book or transfer points.

How To Set Alerts With Roame.Travel

The ability to set up alerts is one of the best features of the Friends of Roame subscription. After inputting your search criteria, you just need to click the Create Alert button and the alert will be automatically added to your account. Members who have a monthly subscription get 5 alerts at a time, while members who pay annually have 10 alerts.

After creating your alert, you can edit it and select whether you want text or email alerts or both. If you accidentally add an alert or would like to remove an alert, just click the trash can icon.

One of the best parts about alerts from Roame is that they aren’t deleted after they’re sent out, which can be an issue with other award search tools. Picture this: You set an alert for business class flights from Chicago to Tokyo for a 10-day window next year. You get an alert for one of those days, but it doesn’t work out. With Roame, your alert is still active and you continue to get alerts that fall within the parameters you set. With some other tools, that alert would be deleted.

Roame Discover

Roame Discover allows you to search for business and first class deals from select airports over a select set of dates. This feature is handy if you don’t have a specific destination in mind but rather are just looking for a great deal.

The Discover feature shows cached results that could be a couple of days old (basically forever in the points and miles world), so be sure to confirm the availability on your own before getting too excited.

Just as with the SkyView feature, the Discover feature has the same date restrictions: Free members get a 7-day window over the next 60 days while paid subscribers get a 60-day window for a full year.

Roame Wallet

Roame’s Wallet feature allows you to track your credit cards and keeps a running total of your total yearly annual fees and Chase 5/24 status.

To access to your Roame Wallet, click on Tools and then Wallet. Click on Add Card to fill your wallet with your current cards. You need to add the date you got the card and can also use this tool to track your welcome bonus progress.

You can also use the Wallet feature to keep track of your hotel, airline, and loyalty programs. You can input your membership numbers (hotels and airlines only) and how many points you have. Unfortunately, these numbers don’t automatically update, so you need to remember to adjust them as you earn or redeem points.

How Roame Compares to Competitors

It can be hard to compare award search tools because they all have benefits and drawbacks, and there’s not necessarily one that is better for everyone. There are lots of options, including Point.me and PointsYeah. Let’s take a quick look at how Roame stacks up to one of the most popular search tools around: Seats.aero.

One of the best features of Roame is that it allows even members with free accounts to search for flights up to a year in advance. Seats.aero only allows free subscribers to search 60 days out.

However, you can’t set alerts using the free verison of Roame, and even paid subscribers are limited to just 5 or 10 alerts at a time. Compare that to Seats.aero, which offers unlimited alerts.

Roame is perhaps more beginner-friendly than Seats.aero, which can be less intuitive to use. On the other hand, Seats.aero includes hotel searches (Rooms.aero), which Roame doesn’t offer.

Final Thoughts

Roame is an easy-to-use award search tool that’s more beginner-friendly than some of its competitors. Casual users get free access to many of the tools, but to maximize your search capabilities and set alerts, you need to upgrade to a paid subscription. Thankfully, Upgraded Points readers can save 15% by using the promo code UPGRADEDPOINTS.
