After an early-morning arrival from the U.S., I was eager to check out the only Schengen zone Priority Pass lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), Aspire Lounge 26. While online reviews lament long lines and a crowded environment, I found the exact opposite. I walked right in, had my choice of seats, and found the food and drinks plentiful and diverse.

Here’s where to find the lounge (and where you might want to visit first!), how to gain entry, the variety of seating options, and what you might find on the breakfast buffet.

Location of Aspire Lounge 26

Aspire Lounge 26 is airside in the Schengen area, after security and passport control in Departure Hall 1 (known as Lounge 1).

Look for signs to the D gates, then take the escalator or elevator to level 2 (mezzanine). From level 2, you’ll take the stairs or elevator to level 3.

I appreciated that the KLM app made navigating AMS easy — I just needed to enter my gate, and it showed how long the walk from the lounge would take and the best route.

The lounge advises the following walking times:

  • B gates (B02-B19) and C gates (C04-C23) — 8 to 12 minutes
  • D gates (D01-D57) — 5 to 8 minutes

How To Access the Lounge

Aspire Lounge 26 is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. A few airlines, banking networks, and lounge networks (including Dragonpass and DreamFolks) have access, but American travelers are likely to enter via a Priority Pass membership. I gained access by having enrolled in the participating Priority Pass lounges benefit on my Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.

Day passes can be purchased for around $54 for adults and children 2 to 17.

Hot Tip:

If you are flying outside the Schengen area, Amsterdam’s other Priority Pass lounge is Aspire Lounge 41 in Departure Hall 2.

Seating

I immediately liked the first seats I saw, which were individual chairs facing the expansive stretch of windows and the sunrise (around 7:30 a.m.). These, and most seats in the lounge, were open, which was a relief after visiting so many crowded lounges on my recent travels.

The front of the lounge had a mix of individual club chairs and sofas with dividing arm tables. Most seats shared a standard Type-C/F outlet with 2 circular prongs (bring an adapter!) and USB-A inputs. Longer conference-style tables in the rear accommodated larger groups, and dining tables near the buffet were best for those eating or who needed a traditional desk-height table to work from.

I sat in one of the half-booth work pods. I easily stored my luggage and spread all my charging devices on the table without feeling too disorganized.

Hot Tip:

A retired KLM Fokker 100 aircraft is visible on the Panorama Terrace, located landside (presecurity and immigration) outside the lounge’s large window. Should you want to tour the plane or do some plane spotting (and what AvGeek wouldn’t?), make plans to do so before your lounge visit. According to the airport’s website, you can start your journey to the terrace from the ground-floor café Rembrandt, then go up to the next floor, then up to the second floor from desk row 1. A bridge leads to the terrace, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Food and Beverages

I visited during breakfast service, though it was just after midnight Central time in my brain, and I had just been served dinner and breakfast on my arriving KLM flight. I was more thirsty than hungry, but I was really excited to see the variety of options available for breakfast, which similarly met folks wherever their brain might be, be that breakfast, savory bites, or snacks.

On the buffet were fruit salad, yogurt, cold cuts and cheese, soup, cereal, and baked goods. Hot breakfast entrées (not pictured) included omelets, American pancakes, hash browns, and turkey bacon.

I liked that plenty of snacks were offered beyond the traditional morning buffet, including stroopwafels, nut mix, breadsticks, a pretzel mix, and something I got a kick out of: foam bananas. I also appreciated grabbing an actual banana to take on my next flight.

There were a few standard bottles of self-serve liquor and chilled bottles of La Barbacoa wine. Sodas were dispensed from a touchscreen fountain (though my Coke Zero was extremely foamy), which was next to a beer tap. Juices and water could be dispensed from another touchscreen fountain.

Coffee stations with wine, nonalcoholic drinks in a cooler, and a juice/water dispenser were near the work pods and at the rear near the conference table. The coolers contained alcohol-free Heineken, tonic water, and bitter lemon.

Amenities

The lounge was light on amenities. There were in-lounge bathrooms, but they had only toilets and sinks — no showers.

The Wi-Fi was blazing fast, with download speeds at 90.5Mbps and upload speeds of 104Mbps.

Final Thoughts

Aspire Lounge 26 in Amsterdam was just what I needed when connecting from my U.S. flight onward in the Schengen zone: a calm place to relax, charge my devices, and grab a quick drink.

This is the first Priority Pass lounge I’ve visited since the recent Capital One lounge changes that restrict guest access. As I was traveling solo, the changes didn’t affect me, but I couldn’t imagine justifying the guest rate for my 4 additional family members unless we were on a very long connection and needed a comfortable place to crash. Even then, I’m guessing there is more to explore at Schiphol beyond this lounge (starting with that KLM Fokker 100 on the terrace)!
