It’s been almost 7 years since a U.S. airline has operated a commercial flight to Venezuela. That’s changed, and that first flight will be landing in Venezuela shortly.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines took off this morning, April 30, with its new service between Miami (MIA) and Caracas (CCS), becoming the first U.S. carrier to fly to the South American country since 2019.

Let’s take a look at the details.

American Returns to Venezuela Starting April 30

American Airlines is has resumed nonstop service between the United States and Venezuela after nearly 7 years.

The Fort Worth-based carrier launched daily flights between Miami (MIA) and Caracas (CCS) as of April 30, 2026, marking the return of a U.S. airline to the route for the first time since 2019.

The service is operated by Envoy, a wholly owned regional subsidiary of American Airlines Group, using Embraer 175 aircraft, with the following schedule:

The first flight departed on time from Miami this morning, and it’s entered Venezuelan air space. It will land in Caracas, the country’s capital, in about half an hour.

“American’s Miami hub is the preeminent U.S. gateway to Latin America, and our service to Venezuela is a key part of our history and our future,” said American’s chief commercial officer, Nat Pieper, adding that AA’s history of service to Venezuela goes back over 30 years.

This flight fills what had been a noticeable gap in American Airlines’ route map.

Aside from AA’s update, flights have been operating to Venezuela from other parts of Latin America. For example, Copa Airlines operates daily flights from Panama City (PTY), and Colombian airlines Avianca and low-cost Wingo connect Bogotá (BOG) and Medellin (MDE) with the Venezuelan capital.

How To Book

Tickets for the Miami–Caracas route are available on American Airlines’ website and mobile app.

You can book one-way fares starting around $580 in economy and about $1,634 in business class for the roughly 3-hour flight in early fall. However, many spring and summer dates are showing higher fares, starting closer to $829 one-way.

For those wanting to use AAdvantage miles, 42,000 seems like the most common price in economy, though costs can go up with demand (since American Airlines uses dynamic pricing on award tickets). If you’re lucky, you can find flights in business class for 151,000 miles per person, but the most common price is around 220,000 miles from what we’re seeing.

Hot Tip:

If fares look a little steep, there’s a reason. This is a newly returned route with limited seats on a smaller regional jet, and demand is expected to be strong — especially with no other nonstop options between the U.S. and Venezuela right now. That combo tends to push prices up.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines has become the first commercial airline to resume nonstop service between the U.S. and Venezuela as of April 30, 2026.

Reservations are available using both cash and AAdvantage miles, though prices are higher than you might expect on a flight of 3 hours and 20 minutes.
