While U.S. travelers might not immediately think of earning rewards with a Canadian airline, the refreshed Chase Air Canada Aeroplan® Credit Card offers value that’s hard to ignore if you love traveling on points.

While the new benefits mean a higher $195 annual fee — $100 more than before — the card offers perks that no other airline credit card offers at that price point. This includes automatic elite status as a cardholder and a new 15% award flight discount on Air Canada and any of its partners.

The refreshed card comes with its highest-ever welcome offer, giving eligible new applicants the ability to earn up to 115,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spending requirements. Here are the details of this welcome offer — and who might qualify.

Earn up to 115,000 Bonus Points With the Aeroplan Card

The Aeroplan card, issued by Chase, was first launched in 2021. Since then, we’ve seen welcome offers range from 50,000 to 100,000 points, but this newest bonus offer raises the bar.

Eligible new applicants can earn up to 115,000 bonus Aeroplan points in a 2-tiered structure. The first 75,000 bonus points are awarded after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, then an additional 40,000 Aeroplan points can be earned after spending a total of $20,000 on purchases in the first 12 months.

While $20,000 is a huge sum, the longer spending window makes that goal more realistic with around $1,667 in monthly spend.

Air Canada Aeroplan points are one of the highest-valued airline currencies according to our latest estimations. That’s because Aeroplan points can be redeemed on any Star Alliance airline, often at more reasonable rates than what other programs charge, including business class redemptions on EVA Air, Lufthansa, and United.

Once earned, 115,000 Aeroplan points can be worth around $1,725 for award travel redemptions. Applying for the card for the welcome bonus offer can make a lot of sense in that regard.

Hot Tip:

The Aeroplan card is impacted by Chase’s 5/24 rule, which generally means you won’t be approved if you’ve already applied for more than 5 credit cards from any bank in the past 24 months.

Is the New Aeroplan Card Worth It?

The Aeroplan card isn’t like most airline credit cards, as the Aeroplan loyalty program has more than 50 worldwide airline partnerships.

Therefore, the card has more appeal to award travelers with special benefits and savings opportunities. Here’s just a sampling of the new and refreshed benefits:

  • 15% off award flights booked with Aeroplan points
  • Up to $100 in Air Canada statement credits annually, broken up into 2 separate up-to-$50 semiannual amounts
  • Aeroplan 25k elite status as long as you hold the card, offering benefits including a complimentary checked bag, complimentary preferred seats, and 5 eUpgrade credits

Final Thoughts

To celebrate its refresh, the Aeroplan card is offering a generous limited-time welcome bonus offer. Those bonus points can go a long way once you consider the new 15% award flight discount and even the annual Air Canada statement credits, which could help offset the award flight taxes associated with most redemptions.

At present, we don’t know when this offer will end, but we know it won’t stick around forever.
