Aeroplan’s HotelSavers program offers a unique way to redeem Aeroplan points for hotel stays, with the potential to save up to 30% at select properties. For 2025, the program’s standout benefit — getting a fourth night free on award stays — has been extended, making longer trips even more rewarding.

The good news is that numerous hotel brands are eligible for these bookings. The bad news, though, is that you’ll need to do the math for each reservation to decide if it’s worth using your points. Sometimes it makes sense, but sometimes it doesn’t.

Here’s everything you need to know about maximizing Aeroplan points with HotelSavers.

What Is Aeroplan HotelSavers?

HotelSavers is available through the Aeroplan loyalty program, letting you use your Aeroplan points to book hotel stays. The program advertises that you can “save up to 30%” when using points at select hotels. It’s also possible to pay for hotel stays through this program, and you’ll need to look for the “HotelSavers” tag next to a hotel to indicate that it participates in the HotelSavers program for discounted award stays — including the fourth-night-free benefit discussed below.

Brands that participate in HotelSavers include several IHG brands (such as Kimpton, Six Senses, Holiday Inn, and InterContinental), Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Ibis, Regent, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Shangri-La, and more. Searching for properties is simple, with a map layout, multiple filters, and a search bar to enter a hotel name or destination.

Each hotel is assigned a category in HotelSavers, and the number of points you’ll need per night depends on the hotel’s assigned category:

HotelSavers Category

Points per Night

1

10,000 to 15,000

2

15,000 to 22,500

3

20,000 to 30,000

4

25,000 to 40,000

5

35,000 to 50,000

6

45,000 to 70,000

7

55,000 to 80,000

8

75,000 to 105,000

Notice that each category has a range for the number of points you’ll redeem per night. The cost will vary based on availability and demand.

When it’s time to pay, you have 3 options:

  • Pay 100% in cash
  • Pay 100% in points
  • Pay 50% points and 50% cash

The ability to pay with points and cash is nice. Unfortunately, you can’t customize the combination to anything but a half-and-half setup.

Hot Tip:

To use Aeroplan points with HotelSavers at the rates discussed in this article, you’ll need to book through a dedicated website, available here. If you pay cash, you will earn Aeroplan points on your bookings.

Get a Fourth Night Free With Aeroplan HotelSavers

When redeeming Aeroplan points for a stay, HotelSavers advertises up to a 30% discount. Even still, it isn’t always a great deal. Take a 2-night stay at the InterContinental London Park Lane, part of IHG One Rewards.

You can reserve this hotel for 66,500 Aeroplan points per night. Booked directly with the hotel, you’ll pay $507 or 93,500 IHG points per night.

Considering that $507 price, how do those numbers match up with our average points valuations? We value IHG points at 0.5 cents apiece, and you’ll get 0.54 cents per point on this particular redemption — above our average value. However, if you redeem 66,500 Aeroplan points per night, you’re getting 0.76 cents per point in value. That’s just half of our valuation of 1.5 cents per Aeroplan point.

However, there’s a way to get better value. Those with an Aeroplan cobranded credit card can use points to get a fourth night free on HotelSavers reservations. That includes the Aeroplan® Credit Card available in the U.S. and Canadian cards like the American Express® Aeroplan® Reserve Card and CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Business Card.

Is It Worth It?

Returning to the InterContinental London Park Lane discussed above, you could pay 199,500 Aeroplan points for a 4-night stay. That’s a redemption value of just over 1 cent per Aeroplan point — better, but still not what you can get using Aeroplan points for flights.

Some redemptions provide better value than others, and you’ll need to carefully evaluate your booking options between cash, Aeroplan points, or any other options that might allow you to redeem points to stay at the hotel you want. HotelSavers won’t always provide top value — even with a fourth night free.

You’ll also get the fourth night free on longer stays, meaning 2 nights free on an 8-night booking or 3 nights free on a 12-night booking. That applies to every 4 nights, so long as it’s a single reservation.

Final Thoughts

Aeroplan’s HotelSavers program lets you redeem points for hotel stays. It advertises a 30% discount, and those with an Aeroplan cobranded credit card can get a fourth night free. While interesting, this isn’t always the best way to use your Aeroplan points, and you should carefully check the math before making any redemptions here.
