If you’ve dreamed of exploring the wilds of rural Canada, then this is the news for you.

Air Canada’s loyalty program, Aeroplan, has just added Bearskin Airlines as a redemption partner. The regional airline has a very niche rural network for budding explorers.

Let’s take a look at how you can use your points for these flights.

Bearskin Joins Aeroplan As Redemption Partner

The addition of Bearskin Airlines will provide some unique redemption possibilities for travelers wishing to explore some of the most rural parts of North America.

Bearskin Airlines is a Canadian regional carrier headquartered in Thunder Bay (YTQ). Most of its small network of routes operates from Sioux Lookout (YXL) and heads north into the Canadian province of Ontario.

Bearskin also serves the airports of Sudbury (YSB), North Bay (YYB), and Winnipeg (YWG), among several others.

Bearskin Airlines is Aeroplan‘s fifth regional Canadian airline partner, joining Air Inuit, Canadian North, Calm Air, and Provincial Airlines.

It’s worth noting that Aeroplan members won’t earn points by paying cash for tickets with Bearskin Airlines.

Hot Tip:

Aeroplan offers a credit card for U.S.-based flyers that comes with a bunch of perks and benefits related to flying Air Canada.

How To Book Flights With Bearskin Airlines Using Aeroplan Points

Booking flights with Bearskin Airlines via Aeroplan is exactly the same process as redeeming with Air Canada or any of the other partner airlines like United — a fellow member of Star Alliance.

First of all, you’ll need to log into your Aeroplan account. If you don’t have one already, you can make one here.

As per Air Canada’s North American redemption chart, redemptions for Bearskin Airlines flights up to 500 miles will start at 6,000 points, and flights between 501 and 1,500 miles will start at 10,000 points.

As always, taxes and fees will be applicable in addition to the points required for the redemption. However, this could still represent a large saving in many cases, considering how expensive one-way flights with Bearskin Airlines can be.

For example, flying from Sioux Lookout to Red Lake (YRL) can cost upwards of CA$437 ($314) for a 40-minute flight! This could be a great time to redeem Aeroplan points.

Paying 15,000 points plus CA$39 ($28) means you would redeem points at 1.9 cents each, which is great for flights in economy seats.

Final Thoughts

While a very niche airline, the ability to use points to fly Bearskin Airlines to some of the most remote parts of Canada will certainly be of interest to some adventurous travelers. Plus, with the cash prices for flights, you may be able to redeem points at great value for big savings.
