Marriott Bonvoy points can be transferred to over 40 airline partners at a usual transfer ratio of 3:1, with an additional 5,000 miles for every 60,000 points transferred to most programs.

While it is also possible to transfer airline miles to Marriott Bonvoy, this option is less common and usually does not provide the best value.

Now, Air Canada Aeroplan members with elite status can transfer their points to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio. But should they?

Let’s see if this is worthwhile.

Transfer Aeroplan Points 1:1 to Marriott Bonvoy

Those with elite status in the Air Canada Aeroplan program can now transfer their points at a 1:1 ratio to Marriott Bonvoy. A minimum of 500 points can be transferred, as well as a maximum of 100,000 points per day and 250,000 points per week.

We value Aeroplan points at 1.5 cents each, while Marriott Bonvoy points are valued at 0.7 cents apiece. While this does not provide a complete picture of points and their multiple uses, this 1:1 transfer ratio doesn’t represent a compelling argument for converting Aeroplan points into Marriot Bonvoy points. You’re trading 1.5 cents for 0.7 cents here.

Additionally, qualifying for the 1:1 ratio is restricted to eligible Aeroplan members who have achieved elite status within the program. This substantially limits the number of members who can transfer points at a 1:1 ratio.

If you want to increase your Marriott Bonvoy balance, there are better options than transferring Aeroplan points. American Express and Chase both offer Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. In addition, you can earn Marriott Bonvoy points via hotel stays, travel partners, shopping partners, and more.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

Air Canada Aeroplan elite members can now transfer their points to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio.

While it’s always great to have new ways to use your points, this option doesn’t provide much value, due to the requirement to be an Aeroplan elite and the fact that we value Aeroplan points more than Marriott Bonvoy points.

However, if you have a large number of Aeroplan points (and have elite status with Aeroplan) but no Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards points that you can transfer to Marriott Bonvoy, you may find this new transfer option beneficial for topping up your account for an aspirational hotel redemption.
