Air Canada Adds Only Nonstop Flight to Canary Islands From North America

Air Canada is climbing the rankings of airlines offering the most unique routes to Europe.

The latest destination to be announced is the year-round temperate Spanish island of Tenerife.

“The addition of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, reflects our continued ambition to offer our customers and Aeroplan members an exceptional, diversified array of unique Air Canada destinations,” said Mark Galardo, executive vice president at Air Canada.

Here are the details.

Fly to Tenerife This Winter With Air Canada

Air Canada‘s new flights from Montréal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ) to Tenerife will offer more winter escape options for residents across North America.

The nonstop services to Tenerife (TFS) will operate during Canada’s coldest months from the end of October 2026 to the end of April 2027.

U.S.-based travelers from dozens of cities will be able to hop on an Air Canada flight to either Montréal or Toronto and connect seamlessly on the new service to Tenerife.

Flight AC956 from Montreal will head to Tenerife on Saturdays and return on Sundays as AC957 from October 31, 2026, until April 25, 2027.

And from Toronto, flight AC954, also bound for Tenerife, will take off on Thursdays and Sundays, returning on Mondays and Fridays. The new service will start on October 25, 2026, and end on April 30, 2027.

It’s thanks to the longer range and smaller capacity of Air Canada’s new Airbus A321XLR that operating these new leisure-focused routes is a possibility. The narrow-body jets feature 14 lie-flat business seats in a 1-1 configuration and a total of 168 regular economy seats.

Air Canada will also add 4 more destinations, this time a little closer to home. Seasonal nonstop flights to Mazatlán, Mexico (MZT); Mérida, Mexico (MID); Roatan, Honduras (RTB); and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ) will start during the next winter season.

Air Canada’s new routes can also be booked via the airline’s Aeroplan loyalty program, which has a simple award chart and offers a generous stopover program when using points.

Final Thoughts

Later this year, Air Canada will launch the only nonstop service between North America and the Canary Islands, idyllic Spanish islands off western Africa.

New planes with new range and capacity, such as the Airbus A321XLR, are an excellent way for airlines like Air Canada to add exciting new routes to their networks. Watch this space for Air Canada’s inaugural A321XLR flight to Mallorca in June.
