Business class will have 28 suites in a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access. Similar to other long-haul airlines, Air India will offer sliding privacy doors and a personal wardrobe in business class.

The Airbus A350 also marks the first time Air India will fly Premium Economy class to Newark and New York. Premium economy will have its own dedicated cabin with 24 seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration. Finally, Economy will have a 264 seats arranged in a 3-4-3 configuration.

“The new seats, new inflight entertainment systems, and new soft products will together provide our guests with great comfort and service that are representative of the new Air India,” Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India. “We believe this enhanced offering will solidify Air India’s position as a leading carrier and attract travelers seeking a world-class flying experience between India and the United States.”

Bottom Line:

All told, Air India says 60% of its flights to the U.S. will feature new or upgraded cabin interiors. Air India flies 51 weekly flights between India and the U.S., including the New York City metro area, Chicago (ORD), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington, D.C. (IAD).

How To Book Flights on Air India

Air India is a member of the Star Alliance, and you can book award flights with several partners.

One of our favorites includes Air Canada Aeroplan. We like Aeroplan because of how easy its points are to earn through its many transfer partners and co-branded credit cards.

An economy flight using Aeroplan will cost you just 55,000 miles one-way, while business will set you back 90,000 miles one-way. And if you manage to find first class award availability on Air India, you’ll pay just 130,000 miles one-way.

Final Thoughts

Air India is flying its swanky new business class to 2 East Coast cities, which is a major upgrade from its dated Boeing 777 product. The new A350 will also offer a dedicated premium economy cabin, sliding-door business class seats, and spacious economy seats. We look forward to this product rolling out in the U.S. this fall!
