Alaska Airlines is upping its ante in Latin America with 3 new routes starting December 14, 2023.

The first, and most exciting, will be from Los Angeles (LAX) to Guatemala City (GUA), which will mark Alaska’s first-ever flight to Guatemala.

On December 23, 2023, Alaska will also inaugurate 2 new seasonal services to the Mexican city of Zihuatanejo (ZIH) from Chicago (ORD) and San Diego (SAN).

“As the fifth largest carrier in the U.S., we’re a growing airline that’s expanding to more international destinations,” said Kirsten Amrine, vice president of revenue management and network planning at Alaska Airlines.

Let’s find out more about Alaska’s new services to Latin America.

Alaska Will Fly to Guatemala for the First Time

It’s always exciting when an airline adds service to a new country for the first time — especially when it’s a country like Guatemala!

“Guatemala is a dynamic new country for us and our guests — full of outdoor adventures, history, and natural beauty.” said Amrine.

Alaska’s new service will operate once daily on a year-round basis with the following schedule:

Alaska will also double down on Zihuatanejo, Mexico, with 2 new seasonal services from Chicago (ORD) and San Diego (SAN), which will operate through April 6, 2024.

The once-weekly Saturday service will join Alaska’s incumbent routes from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) to bring the total number of U.S. cities with nonstop service to the Mexican Pacific coast to 4.

Alaska is in a phase of building out its route network to beach and sunshine destinations after also recently adding routes to the Bahamas and Mexico, as well as a selection of routes connecting winter vacation spots in the U.S.

Final Thoughts

Alaska taking off to Guatemala for the first time this winter is huge news for the airline, as well as for those wishing to travel between Los Angeles and Guatemala.
