Many airlines have programs that let their members use frequent flyer miles for experiences beyond flying.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines are just a few of the airlines offering programs in which members can redeem miles for VIP access to events like concerts, sporting events, and culinary experiences.

Alaska Airlines is now venturing into the experiences market by introducing Mileage Plan Unlocked. Members of Alaska’s Mileage Plan loyalty program will have the opportunity to use their miles for a thoughtfully curated selection of exclusive and unique events.

Let’s look into the details of this new program.

Details — Alaska Mileage Plan™ Unlocked

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan loyalty program is renowned for providing great value when redeeming Alaska miles for flights, and now members can enjoy even more options beyond just flying.

Starting today, Mileage Plan members can use their miles to enjoy a special selection of unique and exclusive events through Alaska’s new program: Mileage Plan™ Unlocked.

Members can redeem miles for fun experiences in many categories — ranging from food and wine to sporting events, music, entertainment, and travel — all starting at just 10,000 miles.

For example, members can use their miles to buy passes for iconic music and art festivals such as Coachella and Stagecoach or to get VIP access to Alaska Airlines suites at various sporting events and concerts.

Members also have the option to redeem miles directly for “buy now” experiences, or they can participate in auctions by placing bids. Packages are available at set prices on a first-come, first-served basis. Members can redeem miles for these packages directly.

Another way to secure one of these memorable experiences is to place a bid through an auction. Alaska Airlines will establish the initial bid, the increments for bidding, and the duration of the auction, allowing members to place bids while the auction is live. The winner is determined by the highest bid.

Hot Tip:

Alaska miles hold significant value, and our latest points and miles valuations determine they’re worth 1.6 cents apiece. Aside from earning Alaska miles through flights, you can transfer points from Marriott Bonvoy or Bilt Rewards, apply for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card, or take advantage of the Hawaiian-Alaska merger while you still can.

Final Thoughts

Alaska Airlines is now entering the experiences business with Mileage Plan Unlocked, a program that allows members to use their miles to book unique experiences and score hard-to-get tickets to popular concerts, sporting events, and more.

While these redemptions may not provide the same cents-per-mile value you can get using miles for flights, more ways to use your miles is always a good thing for airline loyalty program members.
