Amazon is officially moving its business credit cards away from American Express and handing the portfolio over to U.S. Bank — a change that could impact everything from your card benefits to how you manage recurring payments. While some familiar perks may stick around, some things will definitely change.

Here’s what cardholders of the Amazon Business American Express Card and Amazon Business Prime American Express Card should know before the switch becomes official.

Amazon Is Replacing Amex With U.S. Bank for Its Business Cards

If you currently have the Amazon Business Amex card or the Amazon Business Prime Amex card, you will automatically transition to new co-branded business credit cards issued by U.S. Bank later this year.

The transition is expected to occur on August 14, 2026, and existing cardholders won’t need to do anything for the product change. The banks will handle it.

Current rewards balances and account history are also expected to transfer automatically once the switch is complete.

The new cards will largely keep the same core rewards structure that Amazon Business cardholders already have. Prime members will continue earning 5% back on U.S. purchases — up to $150,000 annually — across Amazon Business, Amazon.com, AWS, and Whole Foods Market, while non-Prime cardholders will earn 3% back on eligible U.S. Amazon purchases, capped at the same annual limit.

Amazon and U.S. Bank are also expanding rewards outside of Amazon purchases. The new cards are expected to offer 2% back on eligible business spending categories, plus elevated rewards on travel booked through the U.S. Bank Travel Center.

Another new feature is the ability to split eligible Amazon purchases into fixed monthly payments at 0% APR for up to 12 months instead of earning rewards — a perk designed to help businesses better manage cash flow. Regular APR will apply after the promotional period.

However, not every feature is expected to survive the transition. Because the cards are leaving the American Express network, some Amex-specific perks and protections could disappear once U.S. Bank takes over. Benefits such as Amex Return Protection may no longer be included with the new cards.

Cardholders should also expect to receive entirely new card numbers from U.S. Bank. While payment settings saved directly in Amazon accounts are expected to update automatically, if you have any recurring charges tied to the old Amex card outside of Amazon, you’ll likely need to update them manually.

Bottom Line:

If you currently have an Amazon Business Amex card, your account is expected to transition to a new U.S. Bank-issued card on August 14, 2026. You won’t need to apply for a new account, but you should still watch for updated card details, new account numbers, and any changes to your existing card benefits before the switch officially happens.

Final Thoughts

Amazon’s switch from Amex to U.S. Bank is a pretty big change for Amazon Business cardholders, but it’s not all bad news.

The core Amazon earning rates are staying the same, but the new cards are also adding more ways for businesses to earn — including 2% back in eligible business spending categories outside of Amazon purchases.

Still, if you’ve been using these cards for years, it’s worth paying attention to what perks are disappearing and making sure you’re ready once the transition officially kicks in on August 14, 2026.
