American Airlines is now allowing Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines elite members to status match to the American Airlines AAdvantage loyalty program. While it’s referred to as an Instant Status Match promotion, there aren’t any published promotion dates.

Here are the details on how to status match to American Airlines — all the way up to top-tier Executive Platinum status.

To qualify for this status match, you’ll need to show proof of Delta elite status, Southwest elite status, or United elite status. Each program has different requirements.

To match from Delta SkyMiles, you’ll need to show the following:

  • Proof of status through January 2026.
  • Screenshots from your SkyMiles account showing your first and last name, status, status tracker, and current membership card, including expiration date.

To match from Southwest Rapid Rewards, you’ll need to show the following:

  • Proof of status through December 2024 or December 2025.
  • Screenshots from your Rapid Rewards account showing your first and last name, your A-List status, and your status expiration date.

To match from United MileagePlus, you’ll need to show the following:

  • Proof of status through January 2025 or January 2026.
  • Screenshots from your MileagePlus account showing your first and last names, your current membership card, including the expiration date, and your elite qualification activity for the current and previous year.
Bottom Line:

If you have Delta, United, or Southwest elite status, you can request an instant status match to American Airlines — including top-tier Executive Platinum status. The new status will be valid for 4 months, and you’ll have the opportunity to extend it further by earning Loyalty Points (the metric American uses to determine elite status).

How To Apply for the American Airlines Instant Status Match

To apply for this American Airlines Instant Status Match promotion, you’ll need to go to the AA Contact Us page. Select AAdvantage account service as the Topic and Status match (other airlines) as the Subject.

Then, you’ll need to fill out the form and submit your status match documentation.

It can take up to 2 weeks to process your request. After your status match promotion begins, you’ll have your new American Airlines elite status for 4 months. You’ll be given a set of requirements (a set number of Loyalty Points to earn based on the elite level you matched to) to maintain your status. If you complete those requirements, your new status will be extended until the end of the membership year.

Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether the extension is valid through the current membership year (which ends on February 28, 2025) or the next membership year, which ends on February 28, 2026.

Final Thoughts

If you have United MileagePlus, Southwest Rapid Rewards, or Delta SkyMiles elite status, you can now request a status match to American Airlines elite status. This promotion is valid for all levels of status, including AA’s top tier. Your new American Airlines status will be valid for 4 months, and you’ll have the opportunity to extend it beyond that.
