We’ve known for a while that American Airlines would phase out and replace its Flagship First product, but we didn’t know with what … until now.

The front rows of business class on select AA aircraft will soon feature Flagship Suite Preferred seats.

These seats and experience will be a level above business class, without the dedicated first class cabin.

Let’s take a look at the details.

AA Flagship Suite Preferred Seats

American Airlines will soon be flying Boeing 787-9, Boeing 777-300, and Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which feature new interiors, seats, and amenities across all classes, including Flagship Suite business class seats with privacy doors!

However, new 787 Dreamliners and retrofitted 777s will feature Flagship Suite Preferred seats located in the cabin’s front row (bulkhead).

Besides having extra space, these seats will have exclusive amenities, including:

  • Nest Bedding mattress pad
  • Nest Bedding pajamas
  • Nest Bedding slippers
  • Throw blanket
  • Memory foam lumbar pillow
  • Cool Touch dual-sided pillow
  • Bang & Olufsen noise-canceling headphones
  • Exclusive amenity kit

Pricing for these seats has not been announced yet.

New Amenities and Menu Updates

Along with details about its new seats, American Airlines announced new amenities and dining options.

Amenities

Flagship Suite Preferred (and Flagship First, for now) passengers will receive American’s most requested amenities, which include pajamas and a dual-sided pillow.

This premium bedding and sleepwear will be provided by Nest Bedding.

There will also be limited-time amenity kits thanks to a collaboration with beauty retailer Thirteen Lune.

These specialty kits will feature skincare products from Thirteen Lune by Joanna Vargas and Relevant.

Menu Updates

Refreshed dining options in premium cabins have an international spin and include new items such as:

  • Macadamia-crusted sea bass with citrus cream sauce, quinoa, toasted orzo, and haricots verts
  • Chili marinated chicken with mojo verde sauce, sweet potato mash, roasted corn, and mini chili
  • Gnocchi duet with plain and beetroot gnocchi, lentil ragout, apple chutney, brown butter, roasted spring onion, and sliced green onion
  • Vegetable enchilada with red rice and green chili sauce, garnished with crumbled cotija cheese

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is ditching Flagship First in favor of Flagship Suite Preferred seats, which will be a step up from standard business class.

These seats will be in the front row of select aircraft and will have an elevated onboard experience.

Will the extra space and improved amenities be enough to persuade passengers to pay the premium (whatever that may be) to upgrade? Only time will tell …
