In preparation for the end of the year, American Airlines is already planning its snowbird routes to Florida; additionally, the airline will add service to another destination in Turks and Caicos. The airline is making other changes to its route network, as well, dropping a transcontinental route and removing some of its flights to London from the West Coast.

Here’s what travelers need to know about changes to American Airlines’ routes.

Winter Routes From New York to Florida

To support seasonal demand, American Airlines will add 2 nonstop flights out of New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). From November 5, 2024, to May 5, 2025, you’ll see nonstop service to:

New Route to South Caicos Island

American Airlines currently services Providenciales International Airport (PLS) in Turks and Caicos, flying nonstop from 7 different airports. Now, the carrier will add a second destination in the island nation: South Caicos Airport (XSC).

Starting February 15, 2025, AA will fly to South Caicos twice per week, flying nonstop from Miami International Airport (MIA).

Presently, the only airlines serving South Caicos are InterCarribean Airways (JY) out of Providenciales (PLS) and Caicos Express Airways (9Q) from Grand Turk International Airport (GDT). American Airlines will be the only airline from a major alliance to serve South Caicos, offering flyers a solid option to redeem Oneworld miles.

American Airlines Dropping Some London Flights From the West Coast

Presently, American Airlines has 3 daily nonstop flights between Los Angeles and London. Starting on October 27, 2024, that will drop to 2.

Another London flight going away on October 27 is the route from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) to Heathrow Airport (LHR). This flight will remain suspended through March 28, 2025. British Airways will still fly directly between London and Phoenix during this period, however.

Hot Tip:

Miami to Orange Country Transcontinental Flight Ending

As of August 5, 2024, American Airlines will end its nonstop flight from Miami to John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California. First launched in January of 2024, travelers will need a connection to fly between these 2 airports now.

Alternatively, travelers who want a direct AA flight between Miami and Southern California will need to fly to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or San Diego International Airport (SAN).

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is adjusting its route schedule, planning new flights to South Caicos and winter flights between New York and Florida. However, it’s also removing a nonstop flight between Miami and Orange County while reducing flights from the West Coast to London during the winter.

If these changes impact your travel plans, you’ll need to contact American Airlines to discuss options.
