American Airlines continues to expand its route network from Austin with the addition of 2 new routes to popular leisure destinations in the Caribbean.
The new services to Cozumel (CZM) in Mexico and Montego Bay (MBJ) in Jamaica will start on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
Travelers will be able to benefit from the new service all year round.
Let’s find out more about these exciting new routes.
American Adds Nonstop Flights From Austin to Cozumel and Montego Bay
American will be the only airline to operate a nonstop flight from Austin (AUS) to Montego Bay (MBJ).
However, it appears that Southwest will also launch nonstop service to Cozumel (CZM) on June 11, 2022.
The AA flights will operate just once per week on Saturdays — perfect for those wishing to take a well-earned, week-long vacation in the sun.
The schedules for the routes is as follows:
- Depart Austin (AUS) 9:20 a.m. — Arrive Cozumel (CZM) 11:50 a.m.
- Depart Cozumel (CZM) 12:30 p.m. — Arrive Austin (AUS) 3:20 p.m.
- Depart Austin (AUS) 8 a.m. — Arrive Montego Bay (MBJ) 11:23 a.m.
- Depart Montego Bay 12:03 pm. — Arrive Austin (AUS) 3:53 p.m.
The flights will be operated by Envoy Air Embraer 175 jets as American Eagle — the regional branch of American Airlines.
American operates 2 different variations of this particular aircraft. Both feature first class and Main Cabin, while 1 of the variations also benefits from Main Cabin Extra.
As per the American Airlines website, the variant with first class and Main Cabin seats will operate these new routes.
First class is configured in a 1-2 layout, while Main Cabin is in a 2-2 configuration.
The lowest American Airlines AAdvantage miles rates we’ve seen for a one-way to Cozumel (CZM) start at 10k in Main Cabin and 20k in first class:
The lowest redemptions to Montego Bay (MBJ) appear to start at 13k for Main Cabin and 23k for first class. This is because the distance to Montego Bay is an additional 500 miles.
Hot Tip: You can earn 10k AAdvantage miles without much effort at all. Check out our guide on the best ways to earn lots of American Airlines AAdvantage miles and you could be jetting off on vacation for almost free before you know it.
Ahead of the launch of the new routes, American Airlines only offers nonstop service to Cozumel (CZM) and Montego Bay (MBJ) from 5 and 7 U.S. cities, respectively.
Both destinations are currently relatively underserved by all U.S. airlines from the west of the country, so passengers from these states traveling to Cozumel (CZM) or Montego Bay (MBJ) would need to transfer at least once.
Final Thoughts
American Airlines’ new routes from Austin (AUS) to Cozumel (CZM) and Montego Bay (MBJ) will certainly give those living in the area more options when it comes to Caribbean vacations.
At just 10k or 13k for a one-way ticket, which will you be heading to first?
