How the Hotel Collection Benefits Work

Each year, you can receive up to $600 in hotel statement credits for prepaid hotel bookings with FHR or The Hotel Collection properties. Stays must be booked through AmexTravel.com and apply to stays of any length with FHR for 2 or more consecutive nights at The Hotel Collection.

Statement Credits

Use your Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card to book your stay and receive up to $300 in statement credits available January through June. An additional credit of up to $300 is available from July through December, for a total of up to $600 per calendar year.

On-Site Benefits

In addition to the statement credits, guests receive several benefits, including early check-in, late checkout, and an upgraded room, all subject to availability. Additionally, guests receive a $100 credit toward eligible charges at the property.

The Hotel Collection Benefits
In addition to a statement credit, guests receive on-site benefits. Screenshot: American Express Travel website

Additional benefits, such as daily breakfast for 2 guests, can be available at participating properties.

Hotel Loyalty Program Benefits

Unlike Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings, you’re unlikely to receive any elite benefits from hotel loyalty programs when booking with The Hotel Collection. That said, you should always include your hotel loyalty program number when booking. Or ask the front desk to add it at check-in, just in case. Data points suggest guests have occasionally received associated benefits, depending on the property.

Bottom Line:

The up-to-$600 annual hotel statement credits are available on the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card. To use the credit, you must book a prepaid stay of at least 1 night with Fine Hotels + Resorts or at least 2 nights with The Hotel Collection. No preregistration or enrollment is required.

10 Properties You Can Book With Credit for The Hotel Collection

We’ve written previously about aspirational properties you can book with your FHR credits. But here, we’ll focus on more affordable stays found in The Hotel Collection. We’ve also narrowed our search to properties you can book with the $300 credit, which can cover the entire 2-night stay or most of it.

Las Vegas has long been known as the best destination for finding affordable properties to maximize The Hotel Collection statement credit, thanks to the collection’s nightly rates. If you’re simply looking for inexpensive properties to use your credits on, start there.

If you’re interested in a getaway beyond Las Vegas that still lets you maximize your credits, here are 10 options for an affordable 2-night stay using your credits.

1. Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown (Louisiana)

In a historic 1950s former oil-and-gas building, the hotel is a 10-minute walk from the French Quarter. Canopy hotels are reliably eco-friendly, with complimentary bikes and refillable water stations for guests. Travelers comment on the hotel’s good value, but views on the level of service are mixed.

Things you can count on at the Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown include good food options, a fun atmosphere, and access to the city’s sights.

2. Sofitel Wellington (New Zealand)

Wellington, New Zealand, can serve as a strategic base for exploring the country, given its position as a gateway between the North and South islands. The Sofitel Wellington would be a good fit if you’re looking for 5-star luxury accommodations and access to the city’s sights.

Guests note that the hotel could use a refresh, but the overall decor is chic and modern. Comments also noted that the hotel is on a steep incline, making parking and walking challenging. However, the cable car entrance is a short walk from the hotel and offers access to the Wellington Botanical Garden. The hotel’s service received high marks.

3. The Hoxton, Edinburgh (Scotland)

The Hoxton, Edinburgh, is in the quiet Haymarket neighborhood on Edinburgh’s west end and offers easy access to the city center via public transport. The boutique hotel has eclectic yet comfortable decor, high-quality service, and delicious cuisine. Although structurally a combination of several former townhouse buildings, the hotel is described by guests as cozy.

Direct tram service to the airport is a 5-minute walk away, and Edinburgh Castle is a 25-minute walk, a 3-minute taxi ride, or a 20-minute tram ride away.

4. Hilton Bogota Corferias (Colombia)

Though the Hilton Bogota Corferias is a contemporary hotel in the financial district, it’s conveniently near the city’s dining, shopping, and historic sites. In reviews, staff members are frequently mentioned by name and praised for their service.

Guests particularly enjoy the executive lounge, local food offerings, rooftop bar, and nearby shopping mall. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the historic center. Business travelers like the hotel for its connections to the Corferias fairgrounds and the Ágora Bogotá Convention Center.

5. Hilton Auckland (New Zealand)

This well-located Hilton Auckland hotel receives positive reviews for its waterfront location next to the ferry terminal and Princes Wharf. Dining, shopping, bars, and easy access to Waiheke Island make the property a good choice for exploring Auckland.

The Hilton Auckland also runs specials offering the fourth night free on specific dates (shown on AmexTravel.com during booking). The fastest and most direct route to the hotel is via ride-share from the airport.

6. Meliá Granada Hotel (Spain)

Granada is home to one of the most iconic structures in the world: the Alhambra, a thirteenth-century fortress and palace known as one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture. A stay at the Meliá Granada Hotel offers an opportunity to visit the Alhambra and even enjoy views of this architectural wonder from the hotel.

Although rooms can be compact, the hotel has undergone a complete renovation, so rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. The hotel’s right in the center of the city, making it a good choice for exploring Granada.

7. The Emerald House Lisbon, Curio Collection By Hilton (Portugal)

The Emerald House Lisbon, Curio Collection by Hilton, offers the peaceful location of a residential neighborhood with direct access to the city. The Tagus River is nearby, with lovely views and scenic walking opportunities. Guests mention that the breakfast buffet is very good and that à la carte egg orders are available.

Parking is limited around the hotel, as there is no underground garage or parking lot. The hotel is described as an excellent value for its quality and price, with the trade-off being a 30-minute walk from the historic center.

8. Brunfels Hotel, Hyatt Unbound Collection (Germany)

The city of Mainz is an easily missed gem just outside of Frankfurt. In fact, you can take a 25-minute train ride from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to reach the heart of Mainz. Its walkable, picturesque old town, wine culture, and historic architecture make it a delightful destination for a short getaway.

The Brunfels Hotel in the Unbound Collection by Hyatt is a former Hilton property that a local botanist transformed into a garden oasis. You’ll find his organic touch evident throughout the hotel. The property is also within walking distance of the historic old town.

9. NH Collection Quito Royal (Ecuador)

You never have to worry about the weather in Quito, Ecuador, as the city feels like spring year-round. With its consistently affordable nightly rates, your $300 hotel credit could easily cover a 3-night stay at the NH Collection Quito Royal. The hotel is in the business district, just a short, inexpensive ride-share from the historic district.

Some guests were not impressed with the hotel’s breakfast, but others found it adequate and noted that other meals ordered at the hotel restaurant were excellent. There are also restaurants, shopping, and markets around the hotel.

10. Thompson Washington D.C., by Hyatt (Washington, D.C.)

Although the $300 statement credit covers nearly the entire nightly rate for a 2-night stay at the Thompson Washington, D.C., you’d need to pay more yourself at the property. We’re still including this hotel because it can be an exceptional value in a city where lodging may be expensive.

The Hotel Collection Thompson Washington DC Booking
The Thompson Washington, D.C., by Hyatt offers a stylish, modern environment. Screenshot: AmexTravel.com website

The rooftop bar at the Thompson is a major draw, but guests also like its proximity to the baseball stadium, public transportation, and riverside trails. The hotel receives high marks for its decor, modern with retro vibes, clean rooms, and excellent cuisine.

Final Thoughts

You can enjoy an affordable 2-night getaway using the hotel statement credits available on the Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card. We’ve included hotels where the up-to-$300 statement credit may cover the room rate for 2 nights, including taxes and fees. However, there may be an additional destination charge at the property noted in each listing.

The best nightly rates are typically during shoulder and off-peak seasons for most properties. Hotel descriptions were derived from reading numerous guest reviews on Tripadvisor and from the associated hotel’s website. Your experience can vary.
