If the Platinum Card^® from American Express is your primary travel card, chances are that you’ve taken advantage of many of the built-in perks. One benefit is complimentary elite status with several rental car companies, and it’s as easy as signing up for the loyalty program and enrolling your account to get an instant upgrade.

Since enrollment is usually a one-time process, it’s always worth activating even if you don’t have an upcoming rental planned. That way, the benefit is ready whenever you need it.

However, American Express has just notified cardmembers that they’ll need to reenroll in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards President’s Circle benefit by December 31, 2026, as part of what it calls a “new and improved enrollment experience.” Here are the details.

How To Enroll in Hertz Status by End of 2026

In most cases, you only need to enroll in American Express benefits just once. However, those with the Amex Platinum card must reenroll in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards President’s Circle status by December 31, 2026, to maintain benefits like a guaranteed upgrade and the ability to skip the counter.

Fortunately, the process only takes a few clicks. Log in to your American Express account, navigate to the Rewards & Benefits tab, select Benefits, and select Learn More under Car Rental Privileges.

From there, click Enroll Now and enter your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards number to complete the reenrollment.

While American Express notes that it can take up to 72 hours for your enrollment to be processed, you’ll receive a confirmation once it’s complete.

Bottom Line:

There’s plenty of time to take care of this before December 31, 2026, but it’s worth doing sooner rather than later. If you don’t reenroll by the deadline, you could lose not only your complimentary President’s Circle status but also access to the American Express Customer Discount Program (CDP). The latter comes with valuable perks, including up to 20% off eligible rentals, a 4-hour grace period when returning your vehicle, and space-available car upgrades.
