Now through April 30, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Aeromexico Rewards and receive a 20% bonus.

Generally, we recommend having a good redemption in mind before speculatively transferring points, and that is especially true in this situation.

On paper, this sounds like a good deal, but let’s take a closer look to see if it makes sense for you and your travel plans.

Transfer Amex Points to Aeromexico With a 20% Bonus

American Express just announced a limited-time transfer bonus to Aeromexico: Transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Aeromexico Rewards and get 20% more points.

This bonus is available through 11:59 p.m. MT on April 30, 2025, with a minimum of 1,000 points and a maximum of 999,000 points per transfer.

Normally, Membership Rewards points transfer to Aeromexico at a rate of 1:1.6, so if you transfer 1,000 points, you will receive 1,600 Aeromexico Rewards. With the 20% transfer bonus, that rate jumps to 1:1.92. You will receive 1,920 Aeromexico Rewards points for every 1,000 points you transfer.

Transfers are often immediate, but they may take up to 72 hours to complete.

Is It Worth It?

As always, it is a good idea to have a specific redemption in mind before transferring your flexible points from a bank to an airline or hotel. Why? Once the transfer is complete, it is not reversible, and your points will be stuck with said airline or hotel program.

In this case, you should be extra cautious, because Aeromexico does not have great redemption opportunities. That’s thanks to high surcharges and expensive cancellation fees. Thus, you should only transfer if you are ready to book and have confirmed that you cannot get a better rate elsewhere.

To highlight an extreme example, if you wanted to fly Aeromexico business class from Mexico City (MEX) to Lima, Peru (LIM) tomorrow, it would cost 70,000 Aeromexico Rewards points plus $107 in taxes. Alternatively, you could book that same flight via Virgin Atlantic Flying Club for just 40,000 points plus $92 in taxes.

Since Virgin Atlantic is also a transfer parter of American Express, you could transfer fewer points and book the same flight.

If you decide to take advantage of this transfer bonus, here are the best ways to redeem your Aeromexico Rewards points for maximum value.

Final Thoughts

Through April 30, you can get a 20% bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Aeromexico Rewards.

However, with high award rates, expensive fees, and unfriendly cancellation policies, it may not make sense to transfer — unless you need some extra points to top off your account for a specific redemption.
