All Nippon Airways (ANA) has unveiled its latest business class product, THE Room FX, which will feature sliding doors and extra-wide seats … that don’t recline.

This new product will be featured exclusively on the airline’s international Boeing 787-9s starting in 2026 and will be instantly familiar to anyone who has flown ANA’s current business class “The Room,” as it is the next generation of the award-winning seat.

Let’s take a look at what travelers can expect from this upgrade and when you’ll be able to experience it yourself.

THE Room FX Business Class

ANA has revealed its latest business class product, THE Room FX, at the 55th International Paris Airshow, in Le Bourget, France.

The new product, named “THE Room FX” (FX for Future Experience), was developed in partnership with French aircraft seat manufacturer Safran Seats and British design company Acumen. It builds on the popular “THE Room” seat currently featured on ANA’s Boeing 777-300ER.

THE Room FX will debut in 2026 on the airline’s Boeing 787-9 long-haul international routes, marking the first refresh of its mid-sized aircraft. ANA claims that the new business-class seat will be the world’s largest seat on a mid-sized plane.

ANA is dedicated to providing the highest level of customer experience and is investing in the future of the most advanced and comfortable travel with the new ‘THE Room FX’ seat. This seat represents our commitment to exceeding expectations and shaping the future of luxury flight.

Tomoji Ishii, executive vice president of customer experience of ANA

Business-class passengers can expect 48 seats in the cabin, using a 1-2-1 configuration alternating between forward and rear-facing options. All seats will have a sliding door and sofa-style seats that do not recline, similar to Finnair’s unique business class.

While the decision to install a seat that doesn’t recline may be puzzling at first, the airline says that it is significantly lighter (saves on fuel) and has fewer moving parts, which means fewer things can go wrong. That includes reducing the chances of personal devices falling into mechanisms. To lie down, you’ll simply shuffle your body forward into the footwell.

ANA’s New Business Class Key Features

THE Room FX is a fully lie-flat business-class product that will have a maximum length of 76.5 inches and a maximum width of 41.5 inches when converted to bed mode.

Every seat in the cabin will have sliding privacy doors and a 24-inch HD monitor.

Wireless charging, as well as USB Type A, Type C, and AC power, will be available.

Plus, there will be Bluetooth audio connection so passengers can enjoy the inflight entertainment with their own headphones if they wish.

And they can do so in any of the “new comfort positions” the sofa-style seats offer.

Whether you choose a window or middle seat, facing forward or backward, there doesn’t seem to be a bad seat in the entire cabin.

Final Thoughts

THE Room FX will be ANA’s new business class product, exclusively available on its international Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet starting in 2026.

This new business class will feature a sofa-style seat that “offers new comfort positions,” sliding privacy doors, and the same Japanese hospitality that passengers have come to love and expect.

From what we can see, this looks like a great product. Even better, it should be possible to book these new seats with points and miles soon.
