Arajet, a relatively new Caribbean low-cost airline, has officially kicked off East Coast flights. The airline will launch 4x weekly service between Newark (EWR) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) in June.

Here’s what you need to know.

Arajet’s Newark Flights Begin in Mid-June

Arajet will begin service from Newark (EWR) to Santo Domingo (SDQ) on June 16, the airline announced today, March 10, 2025. Flights start as low as $262 round-trip, which is on par with other flights to the Dominican Republic.

Arajet is a new low-cost airline based in Santo Domingo. The airline keeps costs low by charging for carry-on and checked baggage (a personal item is included). It also offers different fare types: smart, comfort, and extra

“Arajet is committed to making air travel accessible and affordable for the Dominican community and American tourists alike, and New York is a key market to strengthen our U.S. presence,” said CEO Victor Pacheco. “The Newark service will complement routes between the DR, Miami, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, to establish Arajet as a carrier of choice for U.S. travelers booking vacations and getaways as well as visiting friends and family.”

About Arajet

We covered Arajet’s U.S. launch back in December, adding 3 locations at that time: Miami, New York-Kennedy, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. As I noted then, the new airline will have an uphill battle as it carves out space in the Dominican Republic flight market — already one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean.

A handful of mainline airlines, plus several budget airlines, fly to the Dominican Republic. That said, Arajet will likely be extremely popular with New York-area customers looking to support a Caribbean-based airline. The New York region is home to one of the largest Dominican-American populations in the U.S., according to the Migration Policy Institute.

Aside from its U.S. routes, Arajet has an extensive presence in the Caribbean and South America.

From Santo Domingo or Punta Cana (PUJ), Arajet flies to Buenos Aires (EZE), Santiago (SCL), and São Paulo (GRU) in South America. This is notable, as Arajet flies a fleet of Boeing 737 jets, which are typically used on short- and medium-haul routes. Each of these destinations is at least 7 hours long, which is lengthy for a single-aisle jet.

Final Thoughts

There’s a new player in the Caribbean market. Arajet, a Dominican airline, is officially starting flights on the East Coast with service to Newark in June 2025. With flights under $300 round-trip, this is an excellent opportunity to check out a new start-up airline!
