It’s the dawn of a new era for Avelo Airlines as the low-cost carrier opens a new base at Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL).

A new base wouldn’t be complete without a set of new routes, and Avelo is launching 7!

“The addition of Avelo Airlines at Bradley will only increase this airport’s reputation as one of the most convenient airports in the northeast,” said Ned Lamont, Connecticut’s governor.

Here’s more on Avelo’s new Connecticut home.

Avelo’s New Hartford Base

As of today, Thursday, November 7, 2024, Avelo Airlines will permanently station 3 of its fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft at Hartford (BDL), making it the airline’s newest base.

Hartford will join New Haven (HVN) as Avelo’s second base in Connecticut.

The most exciting element for Connecticut travelers is that the following new routes are available to book and fly:

Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina (USA)

Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM)

Daytona Beach, Florida (DAB)

It doesn’t stop there: Avelo will be using its new Hartford base as the launchpad for its first-ever international flights, which will depart to Cancun, Mexico (CUN), and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) before the end of the month.

“With 29 nonstop destinations, including two popular international locations, it’s easier than ever for travelers to seamlessly and reliably get to and from Connecticut, said Andrew Levy, CEO and founder of Avelo Airlines.

Curiously, Breeze Airways is already well-established in Hartford, where it has also made a home base. While the type of destinations and point-to-point routes that the 2 airlines fly to are often similar, Avelo has been careful to kick off with routes that Breeze doesn’t serve.

With that, Avelo’s 7 routes mean entirely new destinations for those living in and around Hartford airport.

Hot Tip:

Avelo is a low-cost airline, which means you’ll pay extra for things like seat selection and in-flight drinks and snacks. Take a look at our full guide to Avelo’s various fees to familiarize yourself before flying.

Final Thoughts

Avelo Airlines’ new base significantly increases the carrier’s presence in Connecticut.

The new routes to and from Hartford bring fresh new travel possibilities for those living close to the airport and the 7 new destinations. This also provides more competition for Breeze in Connecticut.
