Avelo is a low-cost airline that charges a fee for pretty much everything.

Passengers that travel light can snap up cheap base fares that include a personal item, but those requiring more luggage must pay a fee to add bags to their booking.

The cheapest time to book luggage is at the point of booking, as fees increase for both carry-on and checked baggage after this time.

Remember, baggage charges are applied per one-way trip, so you’ll pay double these fees for a round-trip.

  • Post-booking Before Check-in: $60
  • During Online Check-in: $60

Avelo does not disclose any weight restrictions for the personal item or carry-on. However, passengers must be able to lift their bags into the overhead compartment unassisted.

Lap Infant Carry-on Policy

  • Avelo does not disclose its policy on diaper bags but states that a fee will not be charged for bringing a breast pump.

Stroller Check Policy

  • Passengers may check a stroller, car seat, or booster seat free of charge.

Avelo Airlines Checked Baggage Allowance

All checked bags must adhere to a max weight of 50 pounds (22 kg) and max linear dimensions of 62 inches (157 cm). Passengers can check a maximum of 10 bags.

Fees are route-dependent, and Avelo advises passengers to use the airline’s online bag price checker. After running a few route searches, we found these consistent prices below, but do check for your specific route.

  • During Initial Reservation: $40 to $45
  • Post-booking Before Check-in: $60
  • During Online Check-in: $60
  • At the Airport: $65

Additional and Excess Baggage Fees

Exclusions and Waivers

  • 1 complimentary carry-on bag is allowed for military personnel traveling on active duty or permanent change of station orders.
  • Military personnel on active duty or permanent change of station can check 2 bags at no cost and are not liable for additional fees for oversized or overweight baggage.

Can I Prepay for Baggage?

Avelo Airlines allows passengers to prepay for luggage online or via its customer service team.

Here are the ways you can prepay:

  • Log in to the Manage Trips area of the Avelo website and click Add-ons.
  • Phone the customer service team at 346-616-9500.

Avelo doesn’t have a co-branded credit card that provides a free checked bag, but the cards below can reimburse your checked bag fees. Each card allows you to redeem Capital One miles for 1 cent each as a statement credit for previous travel purchases (within 90 days).
