Japan Airlines First Class Availability — The Details

Japan — and its largest city, Tokyo — continues to be one of the world’s most alluring travel destinations. It offers so much, including a rich cultural tradition, electric cities filled with food, design, and fashion, stunning natural sites to explore, and so much more.

And what better way to visit Japan than in Japan Airlines first class? Fortunately, that’s entirely possible right now, thanks to availability that can be booked by redeeming American Airlines AAdvantage miles.

We’re seeing this availability primarily from Chicago (ORD), but there seems to be some space from San Francisco (SFO) and Seattle (SEA) as well, from October 2025 through early next year. Here are the details:

  • Class: First
  • Route: Chicago (ORD), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA) to Tokyo, Japan (NRT)
  • Cost: As few as 80,000 miles and $5.60 in taxes and fees
  • Travel dates: October 2025 through March 2026
  • Award seats: Some flights have more than 3 seats available

Roame.Travel alerted us to the space. The award search function scrapes numerous programs across multiple dates to display availability, allowing you to book directly with the appropriate program.

How To Book

You’ll get the best rates on these flights when booking through American Airlines AAdvantage. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to earn American AAdvantage miles that can be redeemed for flights with AA or any of its Oneworld alliance partners, including Japan Airlines.

American Airlines offers several co-branded credit cards issued by Barclays and Citi. Alternatively, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to American Airlines at a 3:1 ratio.

There are a few other options for booking these flights, though the rates aren’t as good. For example, you can redeem 110,000 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles for the same flights. Alaska is a transfer partner of Bilt Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy. Points can be transferred from Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio, and for every 60,000 points transferred, you’ll receive a 5,000-mile bonus.

Note, too, that you can transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards to Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles at a 1:1 ratio and then transfer them to Alaska from there. However, this option is ending soon — on June 30, 2025 — because the ability to transfer from Amex to Hawaiian is going away.

Final Thoughts

This is a great opportunity to redeem miles for one of the best first class experiences in the sky. Plus, it will get you to Japan, one of the world’s most exhilarating countries. If you’re interested in taking advantage, don’t hesitate to hop on these tickets, as we’re sure availability will be gone very soon!
