Three Oneworld alliance member airlines — British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar Airways — put out a joint press release on July 25, 2023, stating that Spain’s Iberia has officially joined the other 2 carriers in their joint venture, resulting in the largest of its kind anywhere on the planet.

“Our passengers will now have more opportunities than ever to connect to different destinations across the British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar Airways’ networks. This collaborative effort comes as part of our commitment to continuously improve the offerings available to our passengers and provide them with the best in the industry,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker.

Let’s take a look at what this means for you.

Iberia To Launch Flights to Doha

The most immediate effect of the new tie-up is that Iberia will launch nonstop service between its hub in Madrid (MAD) and Doha, Qatar (DOH), as of December 11, 2023. The new service will be operated by Iberia’s Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which has a capacity of 288 passengers across business class and economy.

The upcoming Iberia service will complement Qatar’s existing service on the route and will result in 3 daily flights between the 2 cities.

Iberia’s new flight will operate according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Madrid (MAD) 8:30 a.m. — Arrive Doha (DOH) 5:35 p.m.
  • Depart Doha (DOH) 12:55 a.m. — Arrive Madrid (MAD) 7:10 a.m.

The expanded partnership will provide Oneworld flyers with even more seamless connections across the globe, leveraging each airline’s hub and global networks to get travelers where they need to go with minimal connections and hassle.

Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been on a steady tear of attracting Oneworld airlines to the airport. American Airlines, another Oneworld partner, offers flights from New York (JFK), and Japan Airlines recently announced it would begin flying to the Qatari capital from Tokyo. In addition, the airline sees flights from other partner airlines including British Airways, Finnair, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and more.

Final Thoughts

Iberia is getting even more closely involved with its Oneworld alliance partners British Airways and Qatar Airways. By leveraging 3 major hubs, travelers will have access to hundreds of destinations around the world, and soon Iberia will be flying its own planes to Doha, joining a growing stable of alliance partners with a presence at the airport.
