The Placencia Resort in Belize will join the Hyatt portfolio as an affiliated hotel before becoming a Destination by Hyatt brand and a member of World of Hyatt in late 2025.

Here’s what you need to know.

Belize Getting Its First Hyatt-Branded Hotel

The Placencia Resort, announced today by Hyatt and Maya Rio Development, will be Belize’s first Hyatt-branded hotel. This property will join the Destination by Hyatt brand and the World of Hyatt loyalty program late next year. Located on the Placencia Peninsula, on a lush, 13-mile beach in southern Belize, this luxury resort is near the western hemisphere’s largest barrier reef.

The Placencia Resort is set to introduce 90 guestrooms, suites, and beachfront villas after undergoing a $10 million renovation. The resort will feature an enhanced arrival experience and renovated public areas. Following that, guests can look forward to an all-day dining restaurant, indoor/outdoor event space, a signature overwater restaurant and bar, and a renovated pool and pool bar experience.

“We’re excited to welcome guests to a new destination within the Hyatt portfolio and allow them to explore the breadth and beauty of Belize and what The Placencia Resort has to offer,” said David Kuperberg, head of development, Dream Hotels, Hyatt. “These plans for the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Belize reinforce our thoughtful brand growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, and we remain dedicated to meeting our guests where they want to be. We’re thankful to have worked alongside Maya Rio Development on this transition and look forward to bringing the Destination by Hyatt brand to Belize in late 2025.”

The Placencia Resort advances Hyatt’s Latin America and Caribbean brand growth strategy at large. The Destination by Hyatt brand portfolio continues to expand in the region, with the recent opening of The Legend Paracas Resort in Peru and the anticipated debut of Cas En Bas Beach Resort St. Lucia in 2025.

Hot Tip:

Hyatt also acquired Mr and Mrs Smith properties earlier this year, and there are several standout hotels you can book with points — including in Belize!

How To Book The Placencia Resort

The Placencia Resort will join the Destination by Hyatt brand in late 2025, eventually allowing World of Hyatt members to earn and redeem points for stays. However, because the hotel is not slated to formally join the World of Hyatt program until late 2025, we’re not sure how many points will be required for award redemption just yet.

The hotel is, however, accepting reservations, with nightly rates starting at around $170 per night.

World of Hyatt points are considered 1 of the most valuable hotel points, worth 1.5 cents each according to our latest valuations. You can earn World of Hyatt points by having a co-branded credit card or transferring Bilt Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards to the program.

Final Thoughts

World of Hyatt enthusiasts traveling to Belize starting in 2025 will have a new beachside property to check out. However, we’re not sure how many points will be needed for a free night stay, but will keep you updated when we find out.
