BermudAir has just made waves by being the first airline to welcome stablecoin cryptocurrency payments for flights. The carrier says travelers will be able to make payments this way for tickets during online booking on its website and mobile app by the end of 2025.

This development comes from a collaboration with Zero Hash, a regulated crypto infrastructure platform that allows companies to provide digital asset services without creating their own backend systems.

Here’s what you need to know about BermudAir’s bold new payment option.

What Is Zero Hash?

Zero Hash is a U.S.-regulated crypto-as-a-service provider that handles everything from crypto custody to liquidity and settlement. The company aims to help integrate crypto payment transactions securely and compliantly for airlines or financial apps without dealing directly with the regulatory complexity themselves.

What Stablecoins Are Accepted?

BermudAir’s new crypto payment option supports USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT), 2 of the most widely used stablecoins pegged to the U.S. dollar. These currencies are designed to minimize volatility, making them practical options for purchases like airfare.

Do You Still Earn Miles and Elite Status When Paying With Crypto?

Yes — but with some caveats. According to BermudAir, tickets purchased with stablecoins still qualify for frequent flyer miles or points, just like those paid for with traditional currency. This means you won’t miss out on loyalty rewards simply because you chose to pay with crypto.

Still, the specifics of how those points are calculated haven’t been fully published — especially how taxes, fees, or currency exchange rates factor into it.

Crypto vs. Points: Which Is Better?

If you have some stablecoins on hand, using them for flights can be a clever way to tap into real-world value — particularly when the exchange rate works in your favor. That said, there’s a bit of a trade-off. You won’t be using points and miles, which can often provide better value for your dollar, particularly when it comes to premium cabins or last-minute bookings.

Hot Tip:

Using points often gives you more value than paying with crypto. For example, if a flight costs $300 or 30,000 points, and you value them at 1.5 cents each, you’re getting $450 worth of value from your points. So, while crypto might be more convenient, points can likely give you a better deal in the long run, especially for upgrades or the ability to redeem points for award reservations.

Final Thoughts

BermudAir’s move into crypto payments is a significant innovation, especially for digital-first travelers. Although it won’t completely replace point redemptions, it provides more flexible and modern travel payment options without compromising rewards.
