Bilt has been teasing “Bilt Card 2.0” for more than a year, and now we finally have a clear timeline for what’s coming next. An email sent to members today laid out key dates, explained how existing accounts will transition, and confirmed when we’ll learn full details about Bilt’s next generation of credit cards.

While there’s still plenty we don’t know, this update answers some important logistical questions — especially for current Bilt cardholders who want to avoid disruptions.

What’s Happening With Bilt’s Credit Card?

The current Bilt Mastercard (rates & fees), issued by Wells Fargo, is no longer open to new applicants. Bilt has already confirmed it’s moving away from Wells Fargo as its issuing bank and transitioning its credit card portfolio to Cardless.

For now, existing Wells Fargo–issued Bilt Cards continue to work as normal — though only through February 6, 2026. After that date, the current card will be deactivated as part of the broader transition.

Importantly, Bilt Rewards membership itself isn’t tied to holding a credit card. Even if you don’t upgrade or ever get a credit card, your Bilt Rewards points, status, and account will remain intact.

What We’ve Learned About Bilt Today — And What Comes Next

According to Bilt’s email update, January 14, 2026, is the big reveal. That’s when Bilt will officially unveil details related to 3 new Bilt Rewards credit cards and open pre-orders for existing cardholders.

From January 14 to January 30, current cardholders will be able to select which of the 3 new cards they want. Doing so ensures a “seamless upgrade,” including:

  • Keeping the same card number, so autopay and subscriptions stay intact
  • Automatic updates to Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • No hard credit inquiry
  • Delivery of the new card by February 6, 2026

Bilt has confirmed the 3 cards will have annual fees of $0, $95, and $495, and all will earn Bilt Points on mortgage payments, regardless of lender — a notable expansion beyond rent.

Once you select a new card, you’ll also be able to transfer any existing balance from your Wells Fargo Bilt Card and optionally close that Wells Fargo account shortly after February 6. (Transferring balances will be subject to eligibility; eligibility criteria hasn’t been provided at this time.)

If you don’t select a new card by January 30, your Wells Fargo-issued Bilt Card will still stop working on February 7. In that case, Wells Fargo will issue you a Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card instead, which you’ll manage separately from Bilt going forward.

What remains unknown are the earning rates, benefits, transfer partners (if any changes are coming), and whether the higher-fee cards will justify the price tags. Those details won’t be shared until January 14.

Hot Tip:

We first got a glimpse into the new Bilt Rewards credit cards when Bilt surveyed members about potential changes, including options for credit cards with mid-tier and premium annual fees attached to them — something it hadn’t offered until now.

Final Thoughts

Transitions between credit card issuers are rarely clean, but it looks like Bilt is working to keep things smooth — especially with Bilt allowing cardholders to choose among multiple products with no credit pull and no card number change. That said, the opt-in nature of the upgrade means dates matter. Missing the January 30 deadline could leave some cardholders surprised.

With full details coming January 14, we’ll soon find out whether Bilt Card 2.0 lives up to the long wait.
