American Airlines and the American Red Cross have partnered to reward AAdvantage members who donate to wildfire relief. The partnership awards 10 American miles per dollar donated to the American Red Cross’ California wildfire response. You can also donate AAdvantage miles to the cause.

These funds will go toward the American Red Cross’ response to ongoing wildfires in Southern California that have burned nearly 36,000 acres and destroyed over 10,000 structures in the LA area so far.

Here’s a closer look at the details of this offer.

Earn 10x AAdvantage Miles on Red Cross Donations

The Red Cross is soliciting donations to help with its California wildfire response. If you donate at least $25 to the American Red Cross, you will earn 10 American Airlines AAdvantage miles per $1 donated by January 22, 2025. You can donate on this landing page.

You can choose from preset donations ranging from $75 to $1,000 or enter a custom amount on the donation page. Donations can also earmarked for specific efforts like disaster relief, the California wildfire response, your local Red Cross chapter, or simply “Where It Is Needed Most.”

You can donate online by credit card or PayPal, by phone, or by mail — details are available on the donations page. You can also donate miles from various airline loyalty programs to the American Red Cross.

We value American Airlines miles at 1.4 cents apiece. Earning 10x AA miles on Red Cross donations amounts to a 14% return on your gift. Plus, you’re providing aid to Americans who need it most in the face of a natural disaster.

It’s also worth noting that several Chase credit cards list charities as an eligible category for Pay Yourself Back. You might also consider paying with another of the best credit cards for charitable donations to maximize your points.

Hot Tip:

Are you wondering if you can claim these donations on your taxes? The donation page notes: “The American National Red Cross is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions to the American National Red Cross are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.”

Final Thoughts

If you want to donate to a charity helping people in the wake of disasters, there’s never a bad time to do so. Right now, though, you can get something in return for your donation at a time when it’s needed the most.

If you donate to the American Red Cross by January 22, you can earn 10x American Airlines miles on your donation, so long as you give at least $25.
