Connectivity between Florida and Brazil has increased yet again thanks to ultra-low-cost carrier GOL’s new service between Miami and the city of Fortaleza in the Brazilian state of Ceará.

The once-weekly flight started on Saturday, December 3, 2022, and will continue as a year-round service.

Here’s everything you need to know about Florida’s hottest new Latin American connection.

Gol Connects Miami to Fortaleza

Thanks to its climate and proximity to South America, South Florida, and in particular Miami, is a hugely popular destination for Brazilian tourists so it’s not surprising that GOL is slowly increasing its route network to the state.

GOL also has a solid partnership with American Airlines which means frequent flyers of both airlines are privy to reciprocal perks and benefits.

Given that Miami is 1 of American’s most important hubs, GOL has all the more reason to increase its flights to the airport to benefit from passengers wishing to connect from elsewhere in the U.S.

The route will operate on Saturdays only with the following schedule:

  • Depart Miami (MIA) 9:50 p.m. — Arrive Fortaleza (FOR) 6:55 a.m. (+1)
  • Depart Fortaleza (FOR) 12:40 p.m. — Arrive Miami (MIA) 6:30 p.m.

Fortaleza joins Manaus (MAO), the gateway to the Brazilian Amazon, and Brazil’s capital city of Brasília (BSB) as the 3rd Brazilian city with nonstop GOL service to Miami.

The distance of 3,458 is a few hundred miles shy of the maximum range of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that GOL will deploy on the route.

With that said, the scheduled time of the flight is long. You can expect a flight time of around 7 hours and 5 minutes down to Fortaleza and almost 8 hours on the return leg to Miami.

The lowest economy return fares we’re seeing start at around $800 which is far more than you might expect from an ultra-low-cost carrier.

Hot Tip: Put your credit cards away and save your hard-earned dollars by learning how to redeem GOL Smiles miles for your trip to Brazil instead.

GOL’s 4th nonstop service to the U.S. is also to Florida but this time it connects Orlando (MCO with Brasília and is the world’s longest scheduled Boeing 737 MAX flight.

Final Thoughts

GOL’s new service from Fortaleza to Miami emphasizes once again Miami International Airport’s (MIA) importance as a major gateway between the U.S. and Latin America. The new route will open up a world of new connections from across the U.S. to Brazil as well as in the opposite direction for Brazilians in Fortaleza.
