British Airways has introduced a new way for its loyalty program members to earn their status.

As of November 25, 2025, the airline will award a set number of bonus Tier Points for each flight taken, depending on the cabin class.

Following the overhaul and significant devaluation of its loyalty program earlier in 2025, this news caught our attention.

Let’s take a look at the details.

The British Airways Club Awards Bonus Tier Points for Flights

British Airways caused a stir last year when it announced a raft of changes to its then British Airways Executive Club.

When the new The British Airways Club launched in April of this year, it became significantly more challenging for its members to earn status after transitioning from a distance-based to a spend-based model.

Fast-forward a few months to now, and the airline is attempting to win back some fans of its loyalty program by introducing a new way to earn Tier Points.

From November 25, BA Club members will automatically earn extra Tier Points for every British Airways flight they take. The higher the class of cabin, the more you’ll earn.

The earning rates look like this:

  • Euro Traveller (domestic and European economy) = 75 Tier Points each way
  • Club Europe (domestic and European business class) = 175 Tier Points each way
  • World Traveller (long-haul economy) = 150 Tier Points each way
  • World Traveller Plus (premium economy) = 275 Tier Points each way
  • Club World (long-haul business class) = 400 Tier Points each way
  • First (long-haul first class) = 550 Tier Points each way

Will British Airways’ New Tier Points Bonus Help Me Earn Status Faster?

The short answer: It depends.

BA markets this new earning metric as being able to “earn up to 1,100 Tier Points per flight.” While that is possible when booking a return first class flight, only a very small percentage of BA frequent flyers are likely to afford those costly first class tickets.

Highlighting the fact that passengers booking long-haul economy tickets can now earn a bonus of 300 Tier Points per round-trip flight would be much more representative of this new Tier Point earning metric.

So, using the example of a round-trip economy ticket between New York and London, the new bonus actually means you could earn 1.5x (or more) the amount of Tier Points.

The average low round-trip fare with BA between the 2 cities comes in at around $517.

Tier Points aren’t awarded for the whole $517 fare. You’ll only earn them on the Carrier Imposed Charges ($258) and the actual fare, which is just $1 in this case. When converted into British pounds, because Tier Points are earned per £1 spent, not per $1, that’s approximately £197. So, that’s a total of 197 Tier Points on the ticket itself.

However, thanks to this new earning metric, you’ll now earn an additional 300 Tier Points for this round-trip long-haul flight in economy, bringing the total for the lowest average price for a round-trip ticket between the East Coast and London to almost 500 Tier Points!

That equates to a bonus of 150% Tier Points, which is an excellent reward. However, if you earn your Tier Points solely on flights, you’d still need to make 15 of these $517 round-trip flights to earn the 7,500 Tier Points necessary to get Silver status — BA Club’s third level, where the perks and benefits start to have some real value.

Hot Tip:

If you’re a BA Club member and have the opportunity to fly another Oneworld member rather than British Airways, you can earn significantly more Tier Points. For example, I recently purchased a business class ticket with Qatar Airways from Johannesburg (JNB) to Brisbane (BNE) via Doha (DOH) for £1,600 (~$2,097). If that were a British Airways ticket, I’d have earned 1,600 Tier Points. However, because Tier Points earned when flying some partner airlines, such as Qatar Airways, are still calculated as a percentage of the total distance flown, this 11,525-mile journey would earn me 5,762 Tier Points when credited to my BA Club account.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t think it would happen, but British Airways appears to have taken pity on its loyal Club members by introducing a new Tier Point bonus. There’s no denying that earning a 150% Tier Point bonus (or maybe even more, depending on the cost of the ticket) will undoubtedly help members earn more Tier Points. However, given the high thresholds of 7,500 Tier Points to earn Silver status and 20,000 Tier Points to earn Gold status, these bonuses remain a drop in the water for those wishing to be rewarded by British Airways for their loyalty to the airline.
