Looking for a luxury hotel stay and want to save money? Buying points for your upcoming reservation might help you save money.

Leading Hotels of the World is a collection of over 400 luxury properties, and you can buy Leaders Club points with up to a 100% bonus through December 23, 2024.

Buy Leaders Club Points — Details

Leaders Club is the rewards program for Leading Hotels of the World. As its name implies, the 400+ member hotels are top-notch properties in desirable locations around the world, ranging from beach-front getaways in Santa Monica to bustling New York City and idyllic Maldives tranquility.

Through December 23, 2024, you can purchase points with up to a 100% bonus. At best, you’ll pay 6 cents per point with the bonus. Yes, that’s considerably higher than the price to purchase most hotel points.

This is a tiered — and likely targeted — offer, offering a greater bonus for purchasing more points. Here are the key terms you should know:

  • You must buy in increments of 1,000 points.
  • Buy at least 2,000 points to receive any bonus (50%).
  • Buy at least 30,000 points to receive the 100% bonus.
  • The maximum purchase is 50,000 points before the bonus.
  • Allow up to 10 days for bonus points to be posted to your account.
  • Purchased points do not count toward status qualification.
  • You can purchase points for yourself or as a gift to another Leaders Club member.
  • Purchases must be completed by December 23, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. ET to receive the bonus.

If you purchase the maximum number of points, you’ll get 50,000 points plus a bonus of 50,000 additional points. Those 100,000 points will cost $6,000, bringing your purchase price to 6 cents per point.

Is It Worth It?

For many people, $6,000 is a lot to shell out. Is it worth it? Let’s look at what you could do with these points.

Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa in the Maldives is available in February 2025 for 15,290 points per night. Conversely, you could pay $1,213.79 per night. However, you could buy the required points (at 6 cents each) for $917.40 per night, saving nearly $300 per night.

Closer to home, The Setai, Miami Beach is available in early November 2024 for 10,938 points per night or $788 in cash. However, at 6 cents apiece, you could buy the required points for $656.28 per night — a savings of over $130 nightly.

That said, the prices are still expensive, and you should ensure points redemptions are available at your preferred hotel on your preferred dates before pulling out your wallet.

You also may not need to purchase points at all. You can transfer Citi ThankYou Points to Leaders Club at a 5:1 ratio, so 1,000 Citi ThankYou Points become 200 Leaders Club points. To book The Setai, Miami Beach, you would need to transfer roughly 55,000 Citi ThankYou Points to book 1 night.

Final Thoughts

You can currently buy Leaders Club points with up to a 100% bonus. Buying points in the rewards program of Leading Hotels of the World doesn’t come cheap, but purchasing the required points for a stay might help you save money, rather than paying cash for the hotel.

If you decide to buy points, know that the sale is processed by Points.com, meaning you won’t get credit for a hotel or travel purchase on your credit card. In that case, use your best credit card for everyday spending. And make sure to make your purchase before the deadline on December 23, 2024.
