Cathay Pacific’s 5,000-Mile Award Rebate Details

This Cathay Pacific “Cathay” loyalty program promotion allows travelers to save 5,000 miles when booking round-trip economy award tickets between Hong Kong and destinations in Europe, the U.K., the U.S., and Canada.

Cathay members who book by April 22, 2025, and travel between September 15 and December 11, 2025, can receive a 5,000-mile rebate on round-trip economy awards to or from Hong Kong (HKG) when traveling to select long-haul destinations, as first noticed by AwardWallet.

There are 19 destinations eligible for the 5,000-mile rebate, and all of them require a flight to/from Hong Kong:

Europe: Amsterdam (AMS), Barcelona (BCN), Brussels (BRU), Frankfurt (FRA), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP), Munich (MUC), Paris (CDG), Rome (FCO), and Zurich (ZRH)
U.S.: Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), and San Francisco (SFO)
U.K.: London (LHR) and Manchester (MAN)
Canada: Toronto (YYZ) and Vancouver (YVR)

Awards must be round-trip, although open-jaw itineraries are permitted. To put it differently, you could travel from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and then return to New York, for instance.

Here are additional terms to be aware of:

Valid on all applicable Cathay Pacific-marketed and operated flights.
Valid for travel from September 15 and December 11, 2025.
Award ticket must be booked through Cathay Pacific.
Valid for round-trip economy tickets only.
Book by April 22, 2025.
Only standard award bookings qualify, and mixed-cabin tickets are not eligible.
Rebated miles will be returned to your account after travel is completed.
There is no limit to how many rebates a member can receive.
Taxes and fees still apply.

Is It Worth It?

In general, this 5,000-mile rebate is reasonable if you plan to visit Hong Kong in the fall and fly to any of the eligible destinations. However, we would not recommend making award redemptions with Cathay’s Asia Miles just for the 5,000-mile rebate unless these itineraries were already in your plans.

Look at the flight example below. A round-trip ticket in May from San Francisco (SFO) to Hong Kong (HKG) in Cathay Pacific’s economy cabin would cost 54,000 miles. Thanks to this award rebate promotion, your net cost would be 49,000 miles round-trip after receiving the 5,000-mile rebate — not bad at all.

If you have Asia Miles to spare and don’t mind sitting in economy for these long-haul routes, it would be worth checking to see if any available dates or rates suit your travel plans.
