The venerable Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is getting a major refresh on June 15, 2026, that will bring many positive changes. However, one of its changes is very bad news for anyone who likes to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to the World of Hyatt program.

Chase is changing the transfer ratio to World of Hyatt from 1:1 to 4:3 for Chase Sapphire Preferred card and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Cardholders. This represents a 25% devaluation, which is certainly an unfortunate development.

Here’s everything you need to know.

New World of Hyatt Transfer Ratio for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred Cardholders

Introduced as part of the significant Chase Sapphire Preferred card refresh, the issuer is changing the current 1:1 transfer ratio from Ultimate Rewards to World of Hyatt to 4:3 for holders of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card and Ink Business Preferred card.

For new Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders applying on or after June 15, 2026, this is effective immediately. For existing Chase Sapphire Preferred card and Ink Business Preferred cardholders, this change takes effect on October 1, 2026.

Note, however, that the transfer ratio will remain at 1:1 for those who have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Sapphire Reserve for Business℠.

This change will hit hard for Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders who place a high value on the Chase-to-Hyatt transfer relationship, as they effectively lose 25% of the points transferred when compared to those who can transfer at a 1:1 ratio.

Here’s how that looks in practice. Take, for example, a night at the Andaz Miami Beach Resort & Spa. A Friday night in December requires 25,000 World of Hyatt points to book a standard room.

Those with a Chase Sapphire Reserve card or a Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card can simply transfer 25,000 points from their Ultimate Rewards account to their World of Hyatt account, book the night, and call it a day.

However, those with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card or an Ink Business Preferred card will have to account for the devalued 4:3 transfer ratio and thus transfer 34,000 points to book the same night. Note that, technically, it would require 33,334 points. But for this example, we’re assuming the World of Hyatt account has no existing points, and the program requires transfers in increments of 1,000.

There’s a clear reason behind this change. Chase knows that cardholders place a huge value on the Hyatt transfer relationship. Thus, the issuer wanted to create a starker differentiation between the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, whose annual fee will stay at $95, and the much more expensive Chase Sapphire Reserve card, which charges a $795 annual fee.

Hot Tip:

There’s a potential way around this devaluation. If you hold another Chase card that transfers to World of Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio, remember that you can combine points across different accounts. This allows you to transfer your points within Ultimate Rewards to the card with the more favorable transfer ratio, and then transfer out to World of Hyatt.

Final Thoughts

Chase changing the transfer ratio from 1:1 to 4:3 for Chase Sapphire Preferred card and Ink Business Preferred cardholders is bad news. It’s a pretty significant devaluation for one of the Ultimate Rewards program’s best perks.

However, logically speaking, it makes sense. The very reasonable annual fee isn’t going up, even as the card adds several new perks, benefits, and bonus-earning categories. And Chase wants to steer those who regularly transfer to World of Hyatt toward the more expensive Chase Sapphire Reserve card or Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card.
